Comfort Inn fire ruled an accident

An early Friday morning fire at Comfort Inn in Cave City has been ruled accidental by the state fire marshal’s office.

Special investigative agent Kevin L. Kelm said, “The fire started in the attic in the area of a ventilation fan. The fan and its electrical connections could not be ruled out as the cause of the fire. There is no evidence of arson and this will conclude ATF involvement in the investigation.”

Officials from Alcohol Tobacco & Firearms, the Kentucky State Fire Marshal and the Kentucky State Police investigated the scene. Damage to the motel is estimated to be in excess of $2 million.
