EDMONTON — A Green County teenager died as a result of a hunting accident on Thanksgiving Day.
The shooting occurred around noon on Scotty’s Rock Quarry Road near the Knob Lick community of Metcalfe County.
Colton Marshall, 14, of Summersville, was hunting with an uncle, said Metcalfe County Corner Larry Wilson.
“He just accidentally shot himself,” Wilson said.
Marshall tried to fire a single-shot shotgun but nothing happened. He then turned the gun around and it discharged. A round struck him in the neck, according to information Deputy Mark Jandt with the Metcalfe County Sheriff’s Department.
Marshall was pronounced dead at the scene by Wilson.
He was the son of Stephanie (Kurck) Marshall and the late Anthony Lynn Marshall.
Funeral services were Monday at Powder Mills Baptist Church.
Also responding to the scene were personnel with the Barren-Metcalfe Ambulance Service and firefighters with the North Metcalfe Volunteer Fire Department.
