HORSE CAVE — ACTION: The city council accepted a $136,911.80 bid from Commercial Maintenance and Construction of Glasgow to repair and replace curbs and sidewalks in various sections of town; approved on second reading an ordinance updating the city’s Code of Ordinances; set Dec. 18 at 6 p.m. as the date and time to administer the oath of office to the new city council members, who are: Vickie Rogers, Randall Curry, Sue Nunn, David Lindsey, JoAnne Smith and Jason England; agreed to include a financial report presented by Mayor Odell Martin as part of the meeting minutes.
PRESENTATION: A petition featuring 85 signatures from a group opposed to the closing of the railroad crossing on Bluegrass Avenue in the industrial section of the city was accepted by the city council. Jackie Buckingham of Dart Container Corporation, which requested the closing to protect its employees, said he didn’t realize the inconvenience the closing would cause to the nearby residents. He formally withdrew Dart’s request for the closing and asked that better lighting and signage be installed indicating no trucks should cross the railroad tracks.
REPORTS: Mayor Odell Martin presented the council with a financial report, which the council voted to enter into the minutes, regarding his decision to sign city financial statements for the last six months of 2006 and the first six months of 2007.
COUNCIL CONCERNS: Mill Street needs to be repaired where water company had cut it and Cherry Street needs paving.
