GLASGOW — A Barren County constable was assaulted Tuesday night by a man who was later arrested for public intoxication.

According to the Barren County Sheriff’s Department, constable Buddy Houchens was traveling on Cherry Street when he saw a subject walking unsteadily and trying to flag people down.

When Houchens stopped Weldon G. Huston, 26, of Glasgow, Houchens could see Huston was under the influence of alcohol.

After identifying himself as a constable, a physical altercation took place and Houchens was assaulted.

An eyewitness saw the subject run behind Citizens First Bank toward Cameron Court.

After more law enforcement officials were called, the subject was spotted running behind a residence on Cameron Court.

After a short chase, officers were able to apprehend Huston.

He was charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place, resisting arrest, violation of release conditions, criminal mischief, third degree; fleeing/evading police on foot, first degree; and assault of a police officer, third degree.

Huston was lodged in the Barren County Correction Center and Houchens was treated and released from T.J. Samson Community Hospital.

Deputy Adam Minor arrested Huston and was assisted at the scene by Glasgow Police Department officers Larry Dale Martin and Anthony Honeycutt.
