GLASGOW — Several thefts in the area were solved Wednesday afternoon after thieves tried to sell the stolen goods in the presence of one of the owners.
Anthony Cash, 28 and Eric Weyrauch, 26, both of Barren County, were seen by the owner of one of the businesses burglarized trying to sell aluminum wheels at a local recycling company, according to the Barren County Sheriff’s Department.
After being questioned by Deputy Steve Runyon, Cash and Weyrauch confessed to stealing the items. They also told Runyon other items were at a residence on Lecta-Kino Road.
Upon arrival at the residence, officers found a large volume of stolen goods from various businesses including tools, tires, aluminum wheels, transmissions, alternators, furniture, appliances, a Pepsi machine and dog food that had been stolen from a semi trailer.
The items recovered were returned to the businesses, which include Clayton Mobile Homes, Cobra Auto Sales, Sparky Lube, Knight Transportation and Big G Express, all in Barren County.
Also recovered was a trailer valued at $6,000 that was reported stolen in Indiana.
Cash and Weyrauch were both charged with two counts of burglary, third degree; four counts of theft by unlawful taking over $300; three counts of criminal mischief, first degree; two counts of criminal mischief, third degree; and receiving stolen property over $300.
Both were lodged in the Barren County Correction Center.
Runyon was assisted in the investigation by Det. Rusty Anderson, deputies Kevin Wilson, Adam Minor and Bobby McCown and Barren County Code Enforcement Officer Shannon White.
