Moore named new Red Cross principal

GLASGOW — Jeff Moore, assistant principal at Red Cross Elementary, has been promoted to the principal position after the passing of a former colleague.

The announcement was made at a press conference Friday morning.

Moore became the assistant principal two years ago under then-principal Barry Britt.

“Red Cross means a great deal to me,” Moore said. “Mr. Britt gave me a wonderful opportunity two years ago and I’m still very, very grateful. I appreciate this new opportunity I’ve been given.”

Dr. Jerry Ralston, superintendent of Barren County Schools, said there was some concern regarding the unfortunate passing of Britt, but the site-based decision-making council made a careful selection.

“They’ve done a wonderful job,” Ralston said. “They have made what I feel is an excellent choice.”

Moore couldn’t have made it through the past year without his colleagues and he hopes to get the ball rolling, he said.

“Everybody has been wonderful throughout the whole process,” he said. “This school system is run like we’re all family and I’m glad to be a part of it. The goal right now is to get Red Cross back to stability. We’ve had a lot of losses and a lot of change, but now we can get back to what we do best — teaching students to the best of our abilities.”

Moore began his teaching career at LeGrande Elementary in Hart County.

He then taught at E.B. Terry Elementary with Glasgow Independent Schools before moving to Bowling Green in 2005. He taught at Parker-Bennett-Curry Elementary in Bowling Green Independent Schools for two years before coming to Red Cross.

Following the death of Britt last summer, retired Barren County administrator Dorothy McCubbin, served as interim principal while the search continued for a permanent principal.
