GLASGOW — Local Probation & Parole employees arrived for work Wednesday morning and discovered the front window of their office had been broken out by a possible incendiary device sometime Tuesday night or early Wednesday.
“On Wednesday morning, Feb. 11, when staff arrived at the Glasgow Probation and Parole Office for work, they discovered that sometime during non-business hours, one or more containers of a suspected flammable liquid had been thrown into the office area,” said Lisa Lamb, director of communications, Kentucky Depart-ment of Corrections. “No one was injured in the incident. The damage at this time looks to be limited to the window in the front of the office and scattered debris within the office.”
No fire was reported to have occurred during the incident.
Officers of the Glasgow Police Department responded to the scene, but the investigation was turned over to the Kentucky Department of Corrections because of jurisdictional issues said Capt. Kent Keen, GPD public information officer.
“We had an act of vandalism,” said Mark Stonex, district supervisor for Probation & Parole, who was investigating at the scene Wednesday afternoon. “One object was thrown against the window and broke it.”
He also confirmed a second object had hit the front of the building, but would not say what the objects were or what they contained. Employees who discovered the vandalism were not identified and Stonex said he couldn’t confirm anything else about the incident.
“It’s being investigated by law enforcement,” he said.
The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is conducting the investigation, said Lamb.
A call to Special Agent George Huffman, public information officer, in the ATF Louisville Field Division was unable to provide comment by press time.
The Probation & Parole office was closed Wednesday, but reopened today with normal operating hours.
