LOUISVILLE — A Glasgow couple were shot at during an apprehension late Friday in Louisville.
Officials from the U.S. Marshal’s Office Fugitive Task Force and Louisville Metro Police Department attempted to pull over Courtnie Pruitt, 23, and Marcus Brewer, 31, both of Glasgow, near a gas station on Crittendon Road.
Pruitt has told various media outlets she believes the incident was a case of mistaken identity. Pruitt and Brewer were in Louisville with Pruitt’s two children for a combination Valentine’s Day and birthday celebration.
Pruitt, who is five months pregnant, was shot in the arm during the incident by a deputy U.S. Marshal.
Louisville Metro says Brewer drove into the path of a member of the U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force. The deputy marshal fired into the vehicle which kept moving, according to a report from LMPD.
Brewer was arraigned today in Jefferson District Court in Louisville. He has been charged with first-degree wanton endangerment and endangering the welfare of a minor.
The most serious pending charge in Kentucky against either Pruitt or Brewer is a misdemeanor theft charge in Warren District Court, according to court records. Brewer does not appear to have any pending charges in the state. Pruitt does not appear to have a prior felony record in the state, while Brewer does have a prior drug conviction.
Capt. Kent Keen, spokesman for the Glasgow Police Department, said he was not aware of any local charges against Brewer or Pruitt. Jeff Scruggs, director of the Barren-Edmonson County Drug Task Force, said his agency also did not have any outstanding warrants issued for Pruitt or Brewer. Sheriff Chris Eaton stated he also was unaware of any issues.
The U.S. Marshal’s headquarters in Washington is investigating the incident, according to Rich Knighten, chief deputy marshal at the Louisville office.
Due to the hearing, attempts to contact Derwin Webb, the Louisville attorney representing Brewer, were unsuccessful by press time. The U.S. Marshal’s Office was not available for additional comment due to the President’s Day holiday. A spokesman for Louisville Metro police declined to provide any information at this time.
