GLASGOW — Man arrested for providing minor with marijuana
A Glasgow man was arrested early Saturday morning for allegedly providing a minor with marijuana.
Joseph M. Higdon, 21, 110A Quail Ridge Circle, was taken into custody shortly after midnight when he was observed by Sgt. Rodney Sponhouse allegedly being very unstable on his feet while walking down the street and having slurred speech at his residence, according to a Glasgow Police Department report.
Higdon told the officer he had been smoking marijuana and when they returned to the suspect’s residence Sponhouse noted a strong odor of the drug, according to the report. A search of the house uncovered marijuana and a pipe with residue.
A 17-year-old female was discovered inside the house and she also allegedly admitted to the officer she had been smoking marijuana.
Higdon was charged with felony second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor and public intoxication by controlled substance excluding alcohol, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, first offense.
Charles Eubank was the arresting officer.
Higdon was released from the Barren County Correction Center after posting bond.
Two injured in Friday wreck
Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident Friday night on Edmonton Road.
Andrew B. Mills, 18, was driving east while attempting to pass a vehicle in a 1995 Jeep Cherokee when he drove into the path of a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by Brenda C. Beard, 18, who was attempting to turn into a residence on Edmonton Road.
Mills and Beard were transported to T.J. Sampson Community Hospital where they were treated and released. A passenger in Mills’ vehicle was not injured, according to a Barren County Sheriff’s Office report.
Barren County Deputy Greg Kinslow investigated and was assisted by Deputy Adam Minor, the East Barren VFD and Barren-Metcalfe EMS.
Semis collide, block traffic
Two semi trucks collided Saturday morning causing Burkesville Road to close for a few hours.
Morris Littrell, 66, of Monticello, was traveling west on Burkesville Road when the tractor-trailer he was operating traveled into the east bound lane and struck another semi, driven by Michael Vessels, 58, of Louisville.
Both vehicles went out of control and Vessels’ s tractor-trailer turned on its side, causing a large amount of coal dust to spill onto the roadway and in a field, according to a Barren County Sheriff’s Office report.
The road was closed for several hours dur to the dust making the road hazardous to travel on.
Neither Littrell or Vessels were injured.
Barren County Sheriff Chris Eaton investigated the accident and was assisted by Deputy Bobby McCown, Temple Hill VFD, Barren County Emergency Management director Tony Richey and assistants Gary Chenoweth and Shannon White, Rob McGuffey with the EPA, the Kentucky Department of Transportation and a First Response clean up crew from Bowling Green also assisted in the cleanup of the roadway.
While investigating, some of the volunteer firefighters were nearly struck by a vehicle that turned off of Burkesville Road onto Nobob Road.
The vehicle was a silver Volvo sports car with tinted windows and the first three license plate numbers are possibly 726.
Sheriff Eaton is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest of the driver.

Man injured in tractor-trailer wreck
TOMPKINSVILLE — An Indiana man was injured Thursday in a wreck involving a tractor-trailer on Ky. 163 seven miles north of Tompkinsville.
Jack Q. Bottern, 30, of Fort Wayne, was traveling south in a 2004 Freightliner when he lost control of the truck causing it to strike a culvert and come to final rest in a wooded area, according to a Kentucky State Police report.
Bottern was transported to the Monroe County Medical Center by the Monroe County EMS where he was treated and released.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department investigated the wreck.
