GLASGOW — North Jackson Elementary Principal Anthony Frazier announced the names of 10 staff members Monday, including seven teachers, a guidance counselor, a lunchroom manager and a head custodian.
“We are so excited to introduce the following teachers who will join me next year at North Jackson,” Frazier wrote in a news release. “We will have Kathy Burris, Michelle Johnson, Kim Kerley, Jeannie London, Kellie Long, Terri Matthews and Shana McMurtrey. Also Sherry Waldrop will be the guidance counselor.”
Jerry London is also transferring to North Jackson as head custodian and Lisa Yarberry as lunchroom manager.
“These teachers have been very successful in their careers and have demonstrated great expertise,” Frazier wrote. “Each one incorporates innovative strategies in teaching and is known for engaging at high levels of learning.”
Burris, Johnson, Kerley and Jeannie London are all transferring from Park City Elementary as teachers and Waldrop will be transferring from Park City as counselor.
Long and Matthews are transferring from Eastern Elementary and McMurtrey is coming from Red Cross Elementary.
Yarberry also comes from Red Cross and Jerry London from Barren County High School.
Frazier said he will begin working on filling additional vacancies for his new school, including preschool, special education, receptionist and secretary positions.
Superintendent Jerry Ralston said the district doesn’t intend to transfer teachers within the district and the decision is up to the principal of that school.
“We believe that principals need to have a say in determining who they’re going to have in their school,” Ralston said. “Any vacancies left at those schools, the decision will be up to the principal, whether the teachers are from other schools or fresh out of university.”
