PARK CITY — Anthony Janes, a science teacher at Barren County Middle School has been named the new principal of Park City Elementary, starting July 1.
Janes replaces Anthony Frazier, who will be principal at the new North Jackson Elementary this fall.
“I look forward to becoming part of this family. I’ve heard so much about Park City,” Janes said. “The transition will be bittersweet in the sense that I have formed such great bonds with the community at Barren County Middle, however, I can’t wait to become part of the Park City School team. The environment and climate there is amazing and I can’t wait to be a part of that.”
Janes thanked his family, Barren County Middle School Site-Based Decision-Making council and principal Cortni Crews for support.
“I feel very strongly about Mr. Janes’ ability to work with the schools,” said superintendent Jerry Ralston. “I cannot say enough good things about the dedication and focus of Shelia Mizell (Park City SBDM council vice chairwoman) and her fellow council members throughout this process. They were thorough, deliberate and they made their decision based solely on what was best for the students, staff and community of Park City. He is an outstanding classroom teacher and I have no doubt he will be an outstanding principal for Park City Elementary as well.”
“Everyone is thrilled with the selection of Mr. Janes,” Mizell said. “It’s a perfect fit for Park City and all of us look forward to working with him this next school year.”
Janes said he will soon start to fill positions left vacant by four Park City teachers and a guidance counselor transfering to North Jackson Elementary.
“We’ll eventually start looking at the talent pool and begin selecting the best teachers we have,” Janes said. “We’ll fill those vacant positions with the strongest people can find.”
Janes began his teaching career at Barren County Middle School in 2003 where he has taught seventh grade science and eight grade math.
He also served as the middle school’s athletic director, has been the SBDM council’s vice chairman, co-director of the intramural basketball program, head coach of the eighth grade girl’s basketball team and assistant coach of the seventh grade girl’s basketball team.
