GLASGOW — A Glasgow man was arrested after he tried to flee the scene of a wreck Wednesday night.
Mark S. Wooten, 40, 762 South Gassaway Road, was involved in a collision on U.S. 68/Ky. 80 near the intersection of Donnelley Drive just before 9 p.m. Wednesday and attempted to leave the site of the crash, according to a Glasgow Police Department report.
Officer Brad Lewis reported he was arriving at the scene when he was advised by the dispatcher that one of the vehicles was leaving and the driver was allegedly intoxicated. Lewis observed a 2001 Grand Prix driven by Wooten fleeing the area and when he activated lights and sirens the suspect did not pull over and continued westbound out of town, he said. The officer observed Wooten’s vehicle weaving into oncoming traffic twice, forcing other vehicles off the roadway. The hood of Wooten’s car was also up, obstructing the view through the windshield, Lewis said.
After following the suspect’s vehicle for approximately one mile, the officer said Wooten stopped and got out of the car. He fell and rolled into a ditch, according to Lewis. The officer helped him to his feet, detected a strong odor of alcohol and placed Wooten in custody.
He is charged with one felony count of first-degree fleeing or evading police in a motor vehicle, one count leaving the scene of an accident, failing to render aid or assistance and one count of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, aggravated circumstances, first offense.
Wooten was lodged in the Barren County Correction Center. Bond has not been set.
