GLASGOW — A Glasgow woman was arrested on seven separate charges after police were notified she was behaving erratically in the parking lot of a local business late Tuesday afternoon.
Brandi L. Welsh, 25, 850 Hidden Lake Apartments, was taken into custody by Glasgow Police Officer Brad Lewis during a traffic stop around 5 p.m. Tuesday on West Cherry Street.
Police received a call that a female subject was acting suspiciously and possibly intoxicated while loading a Chrysler PT Cruiser in the parking lot of Lowe’s on L. Rogers Wells Boulevard, according to Lewis’ incident report. The caller advised the police the woman was leaving the area headed north on U.S. 31E and followed her vehicle giving police updates on her location until Officer Lewis arrived on the scene.
Lewis reported the vehicle was swerving back and forth and traveling in a reckless manner. He stopped Welsh’s vehicle and observed she was sitting on top of her fastened seat belt and was unsteady on her feet and appeared nervous once she exited the vehicle. The suspect failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody, according to the report.
Upon a search of Welsh’s vehicle, Lewis found a scanner in the driver door compartment on which he could hear police traffic, a bottle containing Clonazepam, Methadone and Hydrocodone. Welsh had prescriptions for the first two drugs. She allegedly told Lewis she had methamphetamine in the center console of the vehicle and that she had used it prior to being stopped. He located and seized the meth.
Welsh was transported by Barren-Metcalfe Emergency Medical Service to T.J. Samson Community Hospital where she consented to undergo drug testing.
She is charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving, failure to wear seat belt, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs/etc., .08, second offense within five years, possession or use of radio that sends or receives police messages, second-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense and prescription controlled substance not in proper container, first offense.
Welsh was lodged in the Barren County Correction Center on a $1,500 cash or approved surety bond.
