GLASGOW — Glasgow Tire Company was honored Friday morning at the Glasgow-Barren County Chamber of Commerce quarterly breakfast as the small business of the quarter.
The chamber also honored its agri-business of the quarter and businesses that have beautified the community.
Ronnie Nadile, co-owner of Glasgow Tire Company, said the award was a great honor.
“We work so hard and try to do the right thing and I guess today it payed off,” Nadile said. “I did sell my first tire in 1969 and never dreamed it would turn into a career. I’m very proud of our business. I’ve had the opportunity to get to know a lot of great people.”
The company tries to employ good people and that helps them be successful, he said.
“It’s great to be a part of this community and be associated with all these great folks,” Nadile said.
Sheila Perkins, chairperson for the small business development committee, said that she is proud of the company that has been in operation since 1987.
The agri-business of the quarter was Burkmann Feed, started in 1990, was recognized for the impact it has on the community.
“Glasgow has been very good to myself, my family and our partners,” said Eugene Myatt, owner. “It’s a good business environment, there’s a good support network here. We’ve been very fortunate to be here and you don’t get this far without having a lot of good employees.”
The Environmental Awareness Committee of the chamber also recognized a business and two individuals for their work in beautifying the area.
Enterprise Rent-A-Center and doctors Kyle and Amelia Kiser were awarded for various beautifying projects in the area.
“We do this quarterly because we wish to make Barren County even more beautiful than it already is,” said chamber president Krissie Coe Fields.
The guest for the event was the Bowling Green Hot Rods baseball team.
The team begins it’s inaugural season in two weeks and serves as a minor league team for the Tampa Bay Rays.
Brad Taylor, general manager, said the organization has been working non-stop to get the stadium, which is being built by Alliance Corporation, open in time for the opening game April 17.
Taylor said that hiring local people was very important to the organization.
“We’ve tried to build a staff that is not only reflective of the best people we could bring with us, but we also made a committent to hire people who live in this community,” Taylor said. “I’m proud to tell you we’ve brought people who live in and around Bowling Green and about a third of our front office staff is local.”
The stadium and team will be extremely family friendly, offering an affordable, safe and clean stadium for families to visit, Taylor said.
Tickets are still available for opening weekend. The team will also be playing for the Necco ( a non-profit organization working with foster youth) Day at the Ballpark on May 17.
