Traffic stop leads to arrest
A Glasgow man was arrested on multiple charges Monday.
Phillip D. Jones, 33, of 910 Burkesville Road, Glasgow, was taken into custody by Glasgow Police Officer Bradley Lewis following a traffic stop.
On Monday shortly after 4 p.m., Lewis observed Jones driving a 1988 Ford F350 pickup through the parking lots of Southgate Minute Mart and Houchens Market where the driver ran a stop sign.
When Lewis attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Jones pulled onto South Green Street and into the parking lot of Jr. Foods before coming to a halt, according to a GPD police report.
Lewis immediately detected a strong odor of alcohol when he came into contact with Jones and noted the subject was very unstable on his feet, according to the report.
The officer also observed a plastic bag sticking out of Jones’ pocket and when he questioned him, Jones pulled out a small bag of marijuana. A pack of rolling papers also fell out of his pocket at the same time.
Jones allegedly told Lewis he was unable to perform any field balance tests and after a check of the suspect’s information, the officer found Jones’ license status was DUI suspended.
While taking Jones into custody, Lewis also observed a cooler on the front seat of the pickup and, after he obtained permission to search, found an open 1.75 liter bottle of alcohol that was more than ¾ empty. A breath test showed a blood alcohol level of 0.304. A level of 0.08 is the legal limit for alcohol intoxication.
Jones was charged with seven counts, including buying/possessing drug paraphernalia, second offense, a Class D felony; possession of marijuana; disregarding a stop sign; failure to produce an insurance card; operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs, level greater than 0.08, second offense, aggravated circumstances; possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in motor vehicle prohibited; and driving on DUI suspended license, first offense, aggravated circumstances.
Jones is lodged in the Barren County Correction Center on a $2,500 cash bond.
