GLASGOW —
A Glasgow man was arrested on felony charges of fleeing and evading after a police chase early Friday morning.
Just after midnight, James D. Shugart, 31, of 1083 Hollow Road, was speeding on West Main Street. When officers from the Glasgow Police. Depart-ment tried to stop him, Shugart sped up and turned onto Veterans Outer Loop.
After changing lanes several times and running through a red light at the intersection of the outer loop and Happy Valley Road, Shugart turned into a driveway just before reaching the Glasgow Airport.
He then tried to run away and jumped a fence before stopping at the police officer’s command, according to a GPD report. After stopping, Shugart charged at the officer who deployed a Taser, the report said.
Shugart continued to resist verbally while being handcuffed, and tried to kick officers. The Barren-Metcalfe Emergency Medical Service was contacted to remove the Taser probes.
When police searched Shugart’s vehicle they found an open 750 milliliter bottle of Burnett’s vodka between the seats that the suspect allegedly admitted to drinking that night, the report said.
He is being held on at the Barren County Cor-rection Center charged with speeding 19 miles per hour over the limit, first and second-degree fleeing or evading police, disregarding traffic dividers and lights, operating a motor vehicle under the influence second offense, driving with a DUI suspended license first offense, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle, reckless driving and resisting arrest. No bond has been set.
Man arrested for assault
Police were dispatched to the a Cleveland Avenue apartment Friday where a fight was in progress, including a subject with a knife, according to a GPD report.
Nathan C. Gonzales, 19, of 800 Cleveland Ave. apartment H-5 in Glasgow had already left the scene, but the victim, Tammy Jones, said she had tried to break up a fight between Gonzales and his brother James Gonzalez. During the fight, James picked up a kitchen knife and Nathan pulled his own knife to defend himself. Jones received a large cut to her hand when she attempted to intervene. James only received minor injuries, according to a GPD report.
Nathan was found in front of another apartment, where he admitted the weapon was his and was arrested.
He is being held at the Barren County Correction Center, charged with second and fourth-degree assault. No bond has been set.
20 pot plants found
A indoor marijuana crop of 20 plants was found in Horse Cave Thursday in response to a complaint.
Hart County Sheriff Boston Hensley and sheriff’s deputies obtained a search warrant for 2355 Charlie Moran Highway, about two miles east of Horse Cave, according to a HCSO report.
Twenty marijuana plants, a quantity of processed marijuana and paraphernalia used to grow the plants were confiscated.
William R. Smith, 51, of the residence was arrested and charged with cultivating marijuana over five plants and possession of drug paraphernalia first offense.
He was released from the Hart County Jail Friday morning on $9,500 bond. A court date is set for April 5.
