GLASGOW — Stephen Barry Wooten was sentenced in Barren Circuit Court to two 40-year prison terms, served concurrently with no hope of parole until he has served 20 years. He will be a lifetime registered sex offender.

Wooten, 39, of 264 Bishop Road, Glasgow, was charged with a total of 74 counts, including 36 counts of first-degree sodomy, one count of first-degree rape and 37 counts of other sex-related charges, all involving a single female victim under the age of 12.

He appeared in Circuit Judge Phil Patton’s court with his public defender Greg Berry. As previously reported by the Daily Times, Hardin County Commonwealth’s Attorney Chris Shaw was the special prosecutor on the case, since Barren County Commonwealth’s Attorney Karen Davis recused herself because Wooten is a relative.

The charges are related to a June 12 arrest by the Barren County Sheriff’s Office. Wooten was arraigned in circuit court in October before the cases were combined in a November arraignment.

In June, Barren County Sheriff’s Detective Ann Phelps testified Wooten had admitted to multiple charges of sexual abuse with a child, including having oral sex with the victim over a period of one-and-a-half years, averaging twice a month and also having sexual intercourse with the child.

Wooten apologized during his sentencing, but said nothing more.
