GLASGOW — The Glasgow Independent Schools District will not have school on Thursday, according to Director of Pupil Personnel Randy Wilkinson.
The Glasgow Scotties basketball team will play in the All "A" Classic State Tournament in Richmond at Eastern Kentucky University's McBrayer Arena at 8 a.m. CST Thursday. With the anticipation that many fans and students will want to attend the game, district officials opted to allow school to be out for that day.
The Glasgow Lady Scotties are playing Wednesday night at 7 p.m. CST. If they win, they will play at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. Wilkinson said it had not be determined wether school would be out for any day other than Thursday as of Saturday morning.
Both the Scotties and Lady Scotties qualified for the state tournament by winning All "A" Fourth Region games at home Friday night. This is the first time in school history that both the boys' and girls' team won the region in the same season. The Scotties last won the region in 2002. They won All "A" state in 2001 with former Mr. Basketball and Kentucky Wildcat Brandon Stockton leading the way. This year they are led by reigning Fourth Region player of the year Cameron Hall. Glasgow is the only boys' team from the Fourth Region to ever win the All "A" state title.
The Lady Scotties have not qualified for the state tournament since 1997, when they lost in the first round.
They are led this year by a group of younger players in freshman Kelsey Greer, sophomores Haley Perkins and Shelby Ray and senior center Whitney Williams.
