9:10 NIGHT UPDATE: Man charged in murder of Marion County deputy released from hospital

GLASGOW — The man accused in the shooting death of Marion County Deputy Sheriff Anthony Rakes was released from the University Hospital in Louisville and taken to the Kentucky State Reformatory in La Grange, according to a release by the Kentucky State Police.

Dewayne Shipp, 49, was charged on Nov. 14 with the murder of Rakes, who was shot while conducting a traffic stop on U.S. 68, near Lebanon.

Shipp was taken to the reformatory "due to the infirmary facilities available at the state prison," the release stated. He suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the leg that required surgery.

The case of the death of Rakes remains under investigation, according to the release.
