Boyd pleads guilty in federal court
A Horse Cave man pleaded guilty in federal court on Wednesday to six counts of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine.
Robert Deshawn Boyd, Jr., 29, admitted that on Oct. 31, 2008, in Warren County, he possessed with the intent to distribute five grams or more of crack cocaine, according to a report from United States Attorney Candace G. Hill. On Oct. 30, 2008, Bowling Green/Warren County Drug Task Force officers, using a confidential source, arranged to purchase an ounce of crack cocaine from Boyd at Greenwood Mall. When Boyd was located at the meeting place, he was arrested on an outstanding state warrant prior to the completion of the drug deal, according to the report.
A trained narcotics dog indicated that narcotics were present in Boyd’s vehicle, and after obtaining a search warrant officers discovered approximately 66.1 grams of suspected crack cocaine in two bags. Laboratory testing by the Kentucky State Police confirmed that 26.174 grams was in fact cocaine base while the rest failed to test positive for any controlled substance.
The maximum potential penalties are no more than 40 years’ imprisonment, a fine of $2 million and supervised release for a period of life. The minimum potential penalties are 5 years imprisonment and no less than 4 years of supervised release.
District Judge Thomas B.Russell is scheduled to sentence Boyd on Jan. 5 at 11:30 a.m. in Bowling Green.
Man arrested for alcohol sales
Barren County Sheriff Chris Eaton arrested a Barren County man on Thursday around 10:50 p.m. with charges stemming from illegal alcohol sales at his residence.
Dalton E. Ennis, 53, was charged with illegal sale of alcohol in a dry territory, illegal possession of alcohol in a dry territory and endangering the welfare of an incompetent person, according to the Barren County Sheriff’s Office report. Eaton received a call in reference to an underage incompetent person who came home intoxicated, and an investigation led officers to discover numerous cases of beer and a variety of other alcohol in a building behind Ennis’ residence on Goodnight Hiseville Road and a barn on the property, according to the report. Ennis was lodged in the Barren County Correction Center on $750 bond, and future charges are pending. Deputy Greg Kinslow and Constable Buddy Houchens assisted.
