GLASGOW — Two people were injured Sunday in crash on Ky. 163 seven miles south of Edmonton.
Justin Stilz, 18, of Edmonton, was driving south in a 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse when he swerved to miss a deer, lost control of the vehicle, ran off the roadway and struck several trees, according to a report from Kentucky State Police in Columbia. Stilz and a passenger, William Rucker, 20, of Edmonton, were each injured and were taken to T.J. Samson Community Hospital for treatment.
Neither Stilz or Rucker was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the report. The accident is being investigated by Trooper Daniel Stephens. Barren/Metcalfe County Emergency Medical Services and the Summer Shade Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
Man arrested for alleged chase
A Canmer man was arrested Saturday a day after allegedly leading multiple agencies on a high-speed chase.
Ira J. McDaniel, 29, 3097 North Jackson Highway, is charged with two counts first-degree fleeing or evading police, speeding — 25 mph over limit, operating on a suspended revoked operator’s license, failure of nonowner operator to maintain required insurance, third-degree burglary and third-degree criminal mischief.
The last two charges stem from McDaniel allegedly cutting the phone lines and damaging property in an attempt to burglarize the IGA Express on E. Main Street in Horse Cave, according to a Hart County Sheriff’s Office report. The other charges stem from the alleged high-speed chase.
The incident has started with a suspicious vehicle complaint on Windy Hill Road in Horse Cave at 10:09 p.m. Friday. Hart County Sheriff Boston Hensley located the vehicle and attempted to pull over the vehicle due to traffic violations. McDaniel is then accused of fleeing at a high rate of speed down Old Glasgow-Munfordville Road. After a short vehicle chase, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, according to the report. Officers from the Horse Cave Police Department, Cave City Police Department, Barren County Sheriff’s Office, Kentucky State Police and Hart County Constable Walter Bush all responded to help location the suspect, but were not able to find him.
McDaniel was taken into custody Saturday morning, according to the report. He is being held in the Hart County Jail in lieu of a $20,000 bond.
