TOMPKINSVILLE — A Monroe County man scheduled to stand trial this week in a sex abuse case will have to wait.
The trial of Tony William Poland, 39, of 2016 Arterburn Road, was set to begin Monday but was continued due to a scheduling conflict with another trial in Cumberland County, plus other issues, according to Clay Hundley, assistant commonwealth’s attorney for Monroe County.
Poland is accused of committing 54 counts of first-degree sodomy involving a 16-year-old male victim.
This marks the third time the trial has been rescheduled.
Poland was arrested on Aug. 15, 2007 on charges of first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy. He was indicted by a Monroe County grand jury on Aug. 22, 2007 on 54 counts of first-degree sodomy.
The sex acts allegedly occurred between March 1, 2003 and Aug 9, 2007, according to court records.
Poland entered a not guilty plea in Monroe District Court on Sept. 19, 2007.
The victim’s mother reported the sex abuse to the Kentucky Department of Social Services in Monroe County on Aug. 15, 2007. The first occurrence took place when the boy was 12, according to court records.
