PARK CITY — The Dollar General Corporation officials announced Wednesday the opening of one of its latest stores.
The 9,100 square foot store is located in Park City at 375 Mammoth Cave Parkway and is what corporate officials call a “traditional store.”
“We sell brand name and private label merchandise. The store does carry some food products, such as packaged food products as well as some refrigerated food products like lunch meat and dairy products and some frozen food,” said Emily Weiss, media relations manager.
A date for a grand opening of the store will be announced later, she said.
Dollar General corporate officials chose Park City as a location for one of its stores based on a number of reasons.
“We look at a number of factors when choosing new store locations. Some of these factors are demographic trends, traffic patterns and customer needs among others,” she said. “Park City was a great match for us. We believe we can deliver a convenient shopping choice to the community.”
The store will be open every day from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
City officials are pleased that the store is now open.
“I think it’s something we’ve needed for a very long time,” said Mayor David Lyons. “Since the Corner Market went out of business several years ago we really haven’t had anything here in town where you could get every day staples.”
The store will be convenient for tourists passing through the town on their way to and from Mammoth Cave National Park, he said.
“This is a good location,” Lyons said. “We won’t be giving as many directions to Glasgow and Bowling Green as we were.”
The Park City Dollar General Store is one of two new stores in the area. Another Dollar General store is under construction in the Summer Shade community of Metcalfe County.
While the 9,012 square foot Summer Shade store is scheduled to open soon, Weiss did not have an actual confirmation date for the store opening.
As of July 31, Dollar General had 8,577 stores in 35 states, most of which are located in small to mid-size communities, according to the company's Web site.
