GLASGOW — Area communities will honor veterans with special ceremonies Wednesday.
Events in Glasgow include:
The Veterans Day dinner is Tuesday starting at 6:30 p.m. at the National Guard Armory in Glasgow. The speaker is Lt. Col. Samuel Williams. The dinner is expected to conclude at 8:35 p.m.
The Veterans Day parade in Glasgow begins at 2 p.m. Wednesday and will include a helicopter fly-over between 3 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. by the Kentucky National Guard. Williams is also the parade speaker and he will begin at 3:25 p.m. on the square. Following the event there will be an open house from 3:55 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. at the South Central Kentucky Cultural Center. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place at the recreation building near Beula Nunn Park at 2:30 p.m.
There will also been an event at the cultural center at 10 a.m. Wednesday to honor Barren County native, former U.S. Marshal and former member of the Glasgow Police Department Jesse W. Grider.
Edmonton — Beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday an Army tent will be manned on the Metcalfe County courthouse lawn for a period of 24 hours commemorating the end of World War I. At 11 a.m. Wednesday the Veterans Day ceremony will begin.
“The 11th hour, the 11th day and the 11th month was when all of that happened,” said Edmonton City Councilman Jack Vrocher. “So that is why it is important to have it at 11 o’clock.”
Munfordville — At 9 a.m. Wednesday, at Hart County High School U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie will speak to students. All Hart County veterans are invited to attend the ceremony, which will be in the school’s gymnasium.
Park City — At 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie will speak to during a ceremony at the Veterans Memorial on U.S. 31W. Guest speaker will be Vietnam veteran Charles Hogan who will speak on “The Great Seal of the United States.”
Tompkinsville — A pancake breakfast will take place at 9 a.m. followed by a Veterans Day ceremony at 10 a.m. at the Kentucky National Guard Armory. Guest speaker will be Col. Phil Miller, public affairs officer for the Kentucky National Guard.
