GLASGOW — A house on Tompkinsville Road was destroyed by fire late Saturday night. The Temple Hill, East Barren and Haywood volunteer fire departments worked together to fight the fire that broke out at 2712 Tompkinsville Road just after 11 p.m.
Fire crews were able to contain and extinguish the flames, but the house was heavily damaged, according to a Barren County Sheriff’s Office report. No one was home at the time of the fire, and crews stayed on the scene until 6 a.m. Sunday, however they returned to the house when the fire rekindled around 2:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire once again, according to the report.
The cause and origin of the fire remains under investigation.
The Barren County Sheriff’s Department and the Barren-Metcalfe EMS assisted at the scene.
Woman injured in wreck
A vehicle collision approximately seven miles north of Columbia on Sunday injured a Summer Shade woman.
Around 4:15 p.m. Velva Burton, 47, of Columbia, was driving a 1993 Mercury south on Ky. 55 when she struck a 2000 GMC pickup driven by Bobby Pelley, 51, of Columbia, also traveling south. Burton’s vehicle was then struck from behind by a 1997 Chevy S-10, operated by Bethany Boston, 18, of Summer Shade, also traveling south, according to a Kentucky State Police report.
Boston and Burton were transported to Westlake Hospital by Adair County EMS for non life-threatening injuries. Pelley and two passengers in his vehicle, Clyde Pelley, 81, and Louise Pelley, 80, both of Columbia, were not injured, according to the report.
The Adair County Sheriff’s Department and Columbia Police Department assisted KSP at the scene.
