LOCAL BRIEFS: No injuries in kitchen fire

GLASGOW — Members of the Haywood Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire at the home of Mike Rich on Scottsville Road on Sunday morning.

Firefighters arrived on the scene at approximately 10 a.m. Sunday to find a blaze in the kitchen of the home. The fire started on the stove and was contained to the area of the kitchen, but the rest of the house sustained heavy smoke damage, according to Haywood VFD Chief Mike Hatcher.

The home had working smoke detectors that alerted Rich’s children, who were in the home at the time of the fire, and they were able to escape and call 911.

There were no injuries reported, Hatcher said.

Austin Tracy and South Barren volunteer fire departments and Barren-Metcalfe Emergency Medical Service assisted Haywood VFD.

Firefighters were on the scene between an hour and an hour and a half, according to Hatcher.

Two wrecks lead to injuries

In other activity reported by the Barren-Metcalfe 911 Center, two separate motor vehicle wrecks with injuries occurred within minutes of each other on Sunday afternoon. The first was on Old Lexington Road at 1:52 p.m. with Cave City Volunteer Fire Department and Barren-Metcalfe EMS responding. The second wreck was called in two minutes later at 1:56 p.m. and occurred on Crenshaw Cassidy Road. Hiseville Volunteer Fire Department and Barren-Metcalfe EMS responded. Hiseville VFD was also called to a tree fire on Jack Smith Road at 6:38 p.m. Sunday, according to the 911 report. No other information was available at press time.
