Fortunate to escape unharmed

HISEVILLE — A Hiseville man is fortunate to be alive after the tractor he was driving was struck by a sport utility vehicle on Sunday night.

Sonya Deckard said her husband was hauling hay from their field when the tractor and hay he was pulling were struck by a SUV beside their home at 6143 Hiseville Road.

Jamie Deckard said he saw the vehicle coming through his neighbor’s yard and was able to brace himself for the impact.

“I just held on to the steering wheel as tight as I could,” he said.

The tractor was flipped onto its side with him in it and the airbag deployed on the vehicle. Before striking the tractor, the SUV went through a fence, knocking part of it down. Jamie Deckard did not know who was driving the SUV.

The force of the collision drove both the tractor and vehicle several feet further from the road, before the tractor overturned. The impact pushed both vehicles into a trailer that was several feet behind the initial crash location. The crash also spun both vehicles, Jamie Deckard said.

After the tractor rolled over, Jamie Deckard said he was able to crawl away from the vehicle and get inside his home to call for help.

“They took us both to the hospital and neither one of us had a scratch,” he said.

Jamie Deckard said both he and the unidentified driver of the SUV were very lucky to not experience any injuries.

The wreck was investigated by Kentucky State Police. Attempts to contact KSP for additional information were not successful.

“It’s a miracle that no one was hurt,” Sonya Deckard said.
