GLASGOW — MEETING: Barren County Board of Education

ACTIONS: Board members approved the following: minutes of the Nov. 12 board meeting; bills, salaries and accounts; monthly financial reports; out-of-state/overnight student travel; board member out-of-district travel expenses for 2010; schedule of regular board meetings for 2010; non-resident contracts for 2009-10 including preschool contracts; new board policy on student fees and administrative procedures for the new policy; two change orders for North Jackson Elementary in the amounts of $4,000 for floor damage, which will be reimbursed, and $4,425 for unspecified site inspection items; the 2008-09 auditor’s report; capital outlay funds for maintenance expenditures; an addendum to the technology plan; and NJE construction BG-4 forms for McNutt Construction Co., Glass Paving & Stone, American Flooring Systems, Cook Painting Co. and Div. XXVI Electrical Contracting.
REPORTS: Cindy Greer and Brent Billingsley of Campbell, Myers & Rutledge presented the annual audit to the board. President of Venture Contracting Darryll Wheeler gave a report on NJE construction completion. Principal Courtni Crews presented a progress report for Barren County Middle School. Director of Instruction Bennie Lile reported on American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Race to the Top (RTT) funds. Director of Special Programs Mark Wallace reported on staffing. Director of Student Services Bo Matthews gave a monthly attendance report with Average Daily Attendance (ADD) at 92 percent for November and enrollment of 4,617 in K-12 and an additional 325 preschool students for a total of 4,946. He said the district is up 129 students year-to-date above last year and out-of-district numbers are only at a net loss of four. Director of Pupil Transportation Bud Tarry reported mechanics were being interviewed for an open position. Director of Facilities Steve Russell reported on a used van purchase. Director of Finance John Stith gave the monthly financial report.
RECOGNITIONS: Assistant superintendent Bill Walter and board chairman Robbie Toms recognized the following people: Shelly Wininger, BCMS, Classified Employee of the Month; Dr. Jennifer Stith, BCMS, Certified Employee of the Month; Brittany Likens, BCHS, Student of the Month; Dr. Kip Crowder and BCHS Marching Band; district employees Valerie Stokes and Phillip Napier, OASIS Award winners; and BCHS Principal Keith Hale and BCMS Principal Crews, EXPLORE results.
CLOSED SESSION: The board went into executive session to discuss property issues, but took no action out of the session.
