GLASGOW — MEETING: Glasgow Board of Education

ACTIONS: Board members approved the following: Alliance Corporation as construction manager for the new construction or renovation of Glasgow High School, district and school audit report for fiscal year ending June 30, non-resident pupil reciprocal contracts with Allen, Barren, Bowling Green Independent, Caverna Independent, Edmonson, Green, Hart, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson and Warren school districts and others for the 2010-11 school year, food service supply bids for Jan. 1 to June 30, 2010, Highland and South Green elementaries estimated budget for gifted/talent and withdrawal of district itinerant elementary G/T teacher job posting, grant permission for purchase of van for district maintenance purposes, purchase of an outside storage building for Glasgow Middle School, Commonwealth of Kentucky Statewide Emergency Management Mutual Aid and Assistance Agreement, resolution of opposition to proposed state capture of district contingency funds, Race to the Top Memorandum of Understanding, minutes of the Nov. 9 regular meeting, payment of claims, personal actions, fundraisers and trips and 2010 regular board meeting dates and locations schedule.
REPORTS: Glasgow High School Band Director Corey Bonds presented the proposed establishment of a two-uniform system for the Glasgow Scottie Band in which kilts would be worn during all local civic events, but the band would wear new uniforms with trousers for all Saturday marching band competitions in the fall. Cindy L. Greer, CPA and partner in Campbell, Myers & Rutledge, PLLC, reported a clean opinion with no negative findings for the district’s 2008-09 fiscal year audit ending June 30. Director of Pupil Personal Randy Wilkinson gave a report on the bid results for the renovation of the high school track. Glass Paving was the only bidder on the project with a base bid of $73,695. Stacy Jessie, district grant writer, volunteer and public relations coordinator gave an update on grants to the board. Highland Elementary Principal Kelly Oliver, South Green Elementary Curriculum Coordinator Lesley Mills, Glasgow Middle School Principal Mike Vaught and Glasgow High School Principal Kelly Bell, math teacher Lora Garrett and counselor Lori Siebold presented each school’s gap reports and school improvement plans.
RECOGNITIONS: Principal Bell recognized student Kylie Foushee for being named to the 2009 All-State Girls Golf Team.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
A special called meeting for the joint Glasgow/Barren County/Caverna school districts’ legislative breakfast will be Jan. 9 at 9 a.m. at Glasgow Middle School. A public forum will be conducted prior to the regular board meeting on Jan. 11 at Glasgow High School for a report on district wellness efforts regarding school nutrition and physical activities and to obtain public input of the programs.

Tax reform suggestions coming by Nov. 15

After a thorough discussion during Wednesday’s board meeting, the Barren-Metcalfe Emergency Medical Services decided to outsource its billing to AMB-MARS (Medical Accounts Receivable Systems doing business as AMBulance Medical Billing), contingent on AMB-MARS adding a guarantee clause on its work.
