A single-vehicle wreck on Louie B. Nunn Parkway led to the arrest of a Scottsville man early Saturday morning.
Christopher Michael Collins, 28, of 612 Eddings Lane, Scottsville, was taken into custody just after 4 a.m. Saturday after crashing his car into the off-ramp at Exit 11 on the parkway.
Glasgow Police Officer Josh Wright responded to the call and observed a red 1995 Oldsmobile Aurora stopped and facing east on the westbound off-ramp, according to a GPD report. As Wright approached the vehicle, Collins got out of the driver’s side and allegedly told the officer several times that his mother was coming to get him and AAA was going to get the car. Wright reported he detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and questioned Collins about how much he had to drink. The suspect allegedly then said he had hit a deer. The front of the vehicle had sustained severe damage.
Officers searched the area, but found no signs that Collins had hit a deer with the car, according to the report. About 25 yards from where the vehicle came to rest, there was major damage to the guard rail on the right side. From that spot there were tire marks going across the off-ramp to the guard rail on the left side that had been damaged. Officers also found red paint along the rail.
Collins refused treatment by Barren-Metcalfe Emergency Medical Service, but was transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital by GPD Officer Aaron Bennett. A passenger in the vehicle, Nicholas R. Collins, age unknown, of 213 Eddings Lane, Scottsville was uninjured in the crash.
After being treated and released for his injuries, Collins was arrested and taken to the Barren County Correction Center on a charge of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs/etc. .08, first offense, a class B misdemeanor. He was released Monday on a $1,500 cash bond.
