Glasgow PD recognizes top officer

Staff report

GLASGOW — The Glasgow Police Department honored community members and several among their own ranks on Tuesday night during a recognition banquet at South Central Bank’s Opera-tions Center.

Chief Horace Johnson had wanted for some time to have an awards ceremony to recognize police employees and local citizens for their accomplishments, said Lt. Col. Kent Keen, GPD public information officer.

The department recognized Louise Garrett as Citizen of the Year for her many support efforts for the local law enforcement agency.

Other representatives of local businesses and school districts were invited as special guests and given plaques in recognition of their contributions to the police force.

Those honored were Randy Wilkinson with Glasgow Independent Schools, Bo Matthews with Barren County Schools, Mike Burgess with South Central Bank, Tommy Jackson with Edmonton State Bank, Henry Royse of WCLU Radio and Danny Gibson of Bailey Gibson GMC.

Officer Joshua Wright, a patrolman and member of the Critical Emergency Response Team, was given the Police Officer of the Year Award.

Amanda Miller, the GPD Crime Scene Unit’s evidence custodian, was named Civilian Emplo-yee of the Year.

This was a first-time ceremony of its type for the department, but it is something Johnson wants to make an annual event, according to Keen.
