Pot fields found in Monroe County

TOMPKINSVILLE — A large marijuana plot was located Monday about five miles south of Tompkinsville, according to a release by the Kentucky State Police.

KSP Post 15 in Columbia received information of marijuana growing on a subject’s property on Richard Ford Road. When KSP units arrived, they located a small crop of marijuana growing in a wooded area.  

After further investigation, three large plots were discovered, with a total of 527 marijuana plants, all of which were located and destroyed.

No arrests have been made in the case.

Trooper Logan Richardson is the lead investigator. Trooper Ricky Brooks and Trooper Daniel Stephens assisted.

Area arrests from the weekend

A Glasgow man was arrested by Kentucky State Police on Monday on charges of criminal abuse.

Michael Yanez, 20, of 1649 Lick Branch Road, was arrested by Trooper Joel Huff and Detective Jonathan Biven at his residence on an indictment warrant from Hart County, according to a KSP release.  

Yanez is charged with first-degree criminal abuse and first-degree complicity to criminal abuse.

Yanez was lodged at the Barren County Corrections Center on a $25,000 cash bond.

Thomas L. Payne, 19, 730 1/2 E. Main St., Glasgow, was charged Sunday with second-degree fleeing or evading police, alcohol intoxication in a public place and second-degree disorderly conduct.

The Glasgow Police Department had received a complaint about verbal altercation on Main Street. When police arrived they found four people, including Payne, involved in a physical altercation on the back porch, according to a GPD report.

When an officer identified himself, Payne allegedly ran away and was found behind Traveler’s gas station on Main Street.

Payne was released from the correction center after posting a $500 bond.

 Connie Neal, 41, 1104 Columbia Ave. Lot 5, Glasgow, was charged Sunday with first-degree possession of  a controlled substance.

Police came to Neal’s residence after receiving a drug complaint, according to a GPD report.

During a search of the residence, police located Oxycodone, according to the report.

Neal was released from the correction center on a $1,500 unsecured bond.
