Cave City Council wants to see the paperwork before they hand out cash

CAVE CITY — The Cave City City Council agreed Monday night to require anyone seeking a grant or donation from the city to complete a form stating the purpose of their request and how much money they want.

The council voted unanimously to do so after Councilman Denny Doyle said he would like to see the council change the way the city has been handling grants and donations.

Doyle explained having such a form would keep the council from being “put on a spot to make a 5 minute decision [when someone requests city funds].

“If you went to the bank and wanted to borrow money, they would require you to fill out a loan application,” he said.

Having such a form on file would also improve the city's record keeping in regards to grants and donations.

“I have no problem with donating some taxpayer money, but I've been told by more than one person that they didn't think we should be donating any taxpayer money to anything. I don't think I can agree with that,” Doyle said. “I don't think it's asking too much for someone to come down here and sign a form and tell us exactly what they want the money for and what they are going to be spending it for.”
