Glasgow firefighters responded to a structure fire 6 p.m. at the J.L. French Plant at Prestwick Drive on Thursday.
Two fire trucks arrived at the scene. Fire Chief Tony Atwood said the structure fire started under metal beams in the facility’s rooftop. He said the plant personnel were kind enough to let the firefighters utilize their cherry picker to gain better access to the fire. Plant personnel were already outside the building as a safety precaution for the short lived fire that took about 15 minutes to put out.
Atwood said it was mostly a dust fire, but they have to meticulous when working with metal fires because they tend to be difficult to extinguish. Around 6:40 p.m. the workers were able to return to the building. Firefighters remained on the cherry picker until close to 7 p.m. to make sure the fire was completely extinguished.
