GLASGOW —
Mark Wallace, the former Barren County Schools director of special programs, was named Friday morning in a press conference as the new assistant superintendent.
Wallace has been with the Barren County school district for 13 years. Throughout his career he has served as a Monroe County Middle School special education teacher, the Monroe County High School assistant principal, the Gamaliel Elementary School principal and the Barren County Middle School principal.
“I look forward to assisting Mr. Matthews to carry out his vision for the Barren County Schools,” Wallace said. “This gives me an opportunity to work with all areas of educational programs throughout the district.”
The assistant superintendent position became available when Bill Walters retired in September.
Barren County Schools Superintendent Bo Matthews said he chose not to immediately fill the position in an attempt to stretch the budget, but he said he felt now was a good time. He cited the numerous personnel required to meet state guidelines and to provide a second in command to help with the daily tasks of running a school district as reasons for filling the position.
