Caveman Chorus entertains by delivering singing valentines

GLASGOW — Valentine’s Day is a busy day for members of the Caveman Chorus of Southern Kentucky. It’s the day they deliver singing valentines.

“It’s one of the most fun things we do in this hobby,” Bob Hughes said.

Four quartets composed of members of the chorus deliver the singing valentines. There is a quartet that serves each of the communities from which the chorus members hail – Bowling Green, Franklin, Scottsville and Glasgow.

The quartet that will be delivering the singing valentines in Glasgow on Thursday is called Lock and Key.

Hughes, of Glasgow, is a member of the quartet, along with David White, of Monroe County; Lindle Pogue, of Bowling Green; and George Coker, of Bowling Green.

Members of the chorus have spent the last couple of weeks reminding everyone that they do singing valentines.

People can purchase singing valentines by sending an e-mail to place an order, and then the quartets will surprise the recipients by delivering them.

The reaction of the recipients “kind of goes full range,” Hughes said. “Some of them are a little embarrassed and they can’t believe they are getting it.”

Several members of the chorus who make up the quartets, take vacation time from their day jobs just to deliver singing valentines.

“I’m one of them,” Hughes said, adding his employer doesn’t mind. “It’s something that’s been done for several years, so they kind of expect it.”
