Strange named Cave City's top citizen

GLASGOW — Wandel Strange was presented the Citizen of the Year Award Tuesday night during the Cave City Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards and Hall of Fame Christmas Banquet.

The presentation caught Strange off guard.

“I had heard rumors that I had been nominated, but I had no idea I would be the recipient,” Strange said after receiving the award. “I’m very pleased and honored and humbled.”

Strange and his wife, Rita, own Four Seasons Antiques, Uniques and Collectibles in downtown Cave City.

Cynthia Watson, second vice president of the chamber of commerce, said Strange is very deserving of the award.

“He fits the definition of citizenship all the way around. Any time you need something done, Wandel’s the man to call,” Watson said. “He graciously volunteers to do whatever he can do.”

Other awards presented during the banquet were: Small Business of the Year, Bolin’s Market and Garden Center; Economic Development Award, Tekno Inc.; Volunteer of the Year, Ricky Carey; Volunteer Organization of the Year, Cave City Christian Church.

Three people were inducted into the Cave City Hall of Fame also during the banquet. They are: LeRond Reynolds, a former president of the People’s Bank in Cave City; Hampton Reynolds, a journalist and former editor of the Glasgow Daily Times; and Roger Proffitt, a former mayor of the city of Cave City and a former postmaster.
