TOMPKINSVILLE — The suspect in a murder investigation in Monroe County has waived extradition after being apprehended in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Jessie Parke, 22, whose last known address is 9270 Tompkinsville Road, Summer Shade, will be held at the Horry County, J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Conway, S.C., until the Kentucky State Police arrive to pick him up.

He waived extradition in a hearing Wednesday morning, according to officials at the Myrtle Beach Police Department. No bail has been set.

Parke and Jonathan Young, 22, of Glasgow, are charged in the death of Thomas M. Martin, 68, who was found early on the morning of Aug. 26 after a fire in his home at 1600 Hope Road in Summer Shade, according to Kentucky State Police.

Parke was found in a hotel with his wife Monday evening after United States marshals searched the city for him. KSP had been conducting interviews since Monday and through the interviews received the lead on Parke, who is now charged with murder, first-degree arson and first-degree burglary. Police seized a knife from Parke’s vehicle as well, an article in the Myrtle Beach newspaper The Sun News, said.

Since Parke waived extradition, the KSP now has 20 days to pick him up from South Carolina, according to officials at the detention center.

A date has not been set to pick up Martin due to scheduling and budgetary restrictions at the Kentucky State Police Post 15 in Columbia, said Trooper Billy Gregory, public information officer for the Columbia post.

“I’m pretty sure we’ll get there by the end of this week,” he said.

Parke will be transported to the Monroe County Jail, Gregory said.

Young was arrested on charges of complicity to murder, complicity to first-degree arson and complicity to first-degree burglary, Gregory said. He is being held in the Allen County Detention Center, without bond.

He was transferred from Monroe County Jail to the Allen County Detention Center on Aug. 31 because of a lack of space at the jail, according to Doyle Fox, Monroe County jailer. In his Allen County mugshot, Young has a black eye that Fox thinks he received after falling out of a bunk.
