GLASGOW —  

Nellie Lucille Bromley

HARDYVILLE – Nellie Lucille Bromley, 95, of Hardyville, passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Barren County Health Care Center in Glasgow.

She was a retired store clerk with Sears & Roebuck and a member of Dundee Baptist Church.

The Tennessee native was the daughter of the late William Moore and the late Florine Moody Moore. She was the wife of the late Earl E. Bromley.

She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Gotbert, Birmingham, Mich.; one son, Ronald Bromley, Hardyville; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Glenda Dole.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh St., Dundee, Mich., with a graveside service at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, in Azalia Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Brooks Funeral Home, Inc., 50 Main St., Munfordville, Ky.



William S. Shaw

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – William S. Shaw, Kingsport, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013.

He was born April 1, 1922, in Benham, Kentucky, and lived in Detroit, Michigan, from 1923 to about 1933. William lived in Cave City, Kentucky, from 1933 until he graduated from Cave City High School in 1940.

A veteran of World War II, he served three and one-half years in the Army Air Force, with combat service in Italy in 1944. He was awarded several medals, including the Distinguished Flying Cross. He flew the B-24 Liberators for 37 combat missions over Europe.

William attended Speed Scientific School of the University of Louisville from 1945 to 1950 graduating with a Master of Chemical Engineering degree.  

He was employed by Eastman Kodak from 1950 until 1986 as a chemical engineer and at retirement he was Superintendent of the Acid Division.  

He was a 50-year member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, which bestowed on him the honor of being named Fellow of that organization. He was a member of the American Radio Relay League.  He was also a member of Phi Kappa Phi National Honors Society, Sigma Tau National Honorary Engineering Fraternity and the Theta Chi Delta National Honorary Chemistry Fraternity.

William was an avid golfer, achieving the highlight of his golfing career with a hole-in-one.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Z. Shaw; a daughter, Sally Ann Shaw; his parents, Chester and Fannie Davis Shaw; and a brother, Major Eugene David Shaw, retired.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Susan Shaw Sharpe and husband, J.R., of Kingsport; a son, William Stark Shaw Jr., of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Suzanne Sharpe, of Johnson City, Tenn., Mark Andrew Sharpe, of Knoxville, Tenn., and Sally Eileen Salmons, and husband Mark, of Camp Pendleton, Calif; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Military graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at Cave City Cemetery in Cave City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675 or the local Salvation Army, 505 Dale St., Kingsport, Tenn. 37660.

BOWLING GREEN – William “Billy Jack” Beckner II, 61, of Bowling Green, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel, with burial in Bethel United Methodist Cemetery.
