GLASGOW — Cordelia ‘Jackie’ Compton

GLASGOW – Cordelia “Jackie” Compton, 79, of Glasgow, formerly of Edmonton, died Oct. 27, 2012, at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.  

She was born Aug. 21, 1933, in Edmonton, the daughter of the late Lewis and Bessie Poynter Gardner. She was the wife of the late Carl Royal Compton. Jackie worked as a custodian in Edmonton for the Post Office, city building and numerous other businesses in Edmonton.

She is survived by four daughters, Debbie Gardner (Robin) Rich, of Smiths Grove, Becky Gardner (Steve) Bass, of Center, Sharon Gardner Hatten, of Eighty Eight, and Cindy Gardner (Tim) McCoy, of Edmonton; two sons, Sammy (Glenda) Gardner, of Clarksville, Tenn., and Jeff (Susan) Gardner, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; two stepdaughters, Linda Compton (Phillip) King, of Glasgow, and Lanette Compton Dirden, of Madisonville; three sisters, Leola Smith, of Edmonton, Betty (Glenn) Poynter and Ruby (Bobby) Scott, both of Indiana; one brother, Verlon Gardner, of Florida; 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and her extended family at NHC in Glasgow.  

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Melinda Bass; one grandson-in-law, Nathan Cassady; a son-in-law, Larry Hatten; a stepson, Jimmy (Bo) Compton; four brothers, Sammy, Johnny, Randell and Billy; and four sisters, Edith, Evelyn, Rena and Shirley.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in Metcalfe County Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be from 2 until 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Nelma Ree Condra

TOMPKINSVILLE – Nelma Ree Condra, 87, of Tompkinsville, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville.

Nelma was born in Monroe County on Dec. 29, 1924, a daughter of the late Mollie (Arnett) and Isham Stewart.

Visitation will be at Yokley Trible Funeral Home in Tompkinsville, on Tuesday, Oct. 30, from 2 until 9 p.m. and Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Yokley Trible Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at the funeral home at 2 p.m. on Wednesday with Gary Emberton officiating. Burial will be at Mount Poland Cemetery in Tompkinsville. Donations may be made to Mount Poland Cemetery.
