Robert E. ‘Bobby’ Biggers Jr.

GLASGOW — Robert E. “Bobby” Biggers Jr., 77, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital.

He was born in Glasgow, the son of the late Robert Elliott Biggers Sr. and Inez Vaughn Biggers. Bobby was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and had also worked for the former Telescripts Cable Co. as a sportscaster and commentator for local programs. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and retired with the rank of Command Sargent Major with the Kentucky National Guard. Mr. Biggers was a member of Glenview Christian Church in Glasgow.

He is survived by his wife, Madonna; two sons: Mark Biggers and wife Debbie of Glasgow, and Scott Biggers of Bowling Green; three stepsons: Brian Springer, Chris (Angie) Springer and Brent Springer; two grandchildren: Robert Ashton Biggers of Elizabethtown, and Hayley Vaughn Biggers of Glasgow; seven step grandchildren: Kyle and Chelsea Springer, Brynn, AnnDouglas and Ty Thomas Springer, Chase Christie and Sydney Springer; and an aunt: Charlotte “Coogie” Grissom of Louisville.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at Glenview Christian Church. Burial, with military honors provided by DAV Chapter 20, will be in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home and continue Friday at the funeral home until 10 a.m. At this time he will be moved to the Glenview Christian Church for visitation from 11 a.m. until time for the service.

Alternate expressions of sympathy can be made in the form of memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, Kaden Tower, 6100 Dutchmans Lane, Suite 401, Louisville, KY 40205-3284.

Ethel Flowers Fant

GLASGOW — Ethel Flowers Fant, 86, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, at NHC Healthcare Facility in Glasgow.

She was born in Wilkinson, Miss., the daughter of the late Thomas Wesley Flowers and Jesse Netterville Flowers. Mrs. Fant was a graduate of Tulane Nursing School and was a registered nurse. She was retired from T.J. Samson Community Hospital and had been a part of a medical missionary team to Tanzania. Mrs. Fant was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Nurse Corp in 1945-1946. She had served Barren County as a former Barren County Court Clerk and was a member of Columbia Avenue Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Stanley Fant; a son, Dr. Robert David Fant; three brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include a daughter: Suzanne Fant of Glasgow; a son: Robert Dennis Fant (Rita) of Searcy, Ark.; a foster daughter: Carolyn Bautista (Silvestre) of Glasgow; eight grandchildren: Laura Jo Murphy (Daniel) of Columbia, Tenn., Dwayne Rutledge and Joseph Fant of Glasgow, Charlie Fant and Jessie Fant of Glasgow, Katie Fant Smith (Nathan) of Austin, Texas, Courtney Fant Hirscheider (Blake) of N. Little Rock, Ark., and Carson Fant of Nashville, Tenn.; six great-grandchildren; three sisters: Anna Mae Moreland and Willie Andrews of Baton Rouge, La., and Ellen Baragona of Natchez, Miss.; and one brother: Pernell Flowers of Natchez, Miss.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Jerena A. Lotts

KETTERING, Ohio — Jerena A. Lotts, 68, formerly of Glasgow, passed away Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at her residence.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Susan DeVasher; sister, Earline Kingrey; and brother, Cleveland DeVasher.

Jerena is survived by her husband, Norm; daughters and sons-in-law: Vanessa and James Gibson of Troy, Ohio, Jennifer and Robert Dooley of Chattanooga, Tenn.; step-son: Joseph Lotts of Florida; grandchildren: Aaron Penquite and Valeri Gibson, both of Troy, Ohio; sisters: Leffel Davis of Glasgow, and Wanda Carpenter of Bowling Green; brothers: Wallace DeVasher of Bowling Green, William A. DeVasher of Glasgow, Ferrell DeVasher of Austin; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Henderson Cemetery at Finney. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 noon Saturday until service time.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to BRAWA (Barren River Animal Welfare Association) in Jerena’s memory.

GLASGOW — Donald R. Catron, 69, died Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital after a sudden illness. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be today (Wednesday) from 4 until 8 p.m. and Thursday morning until time for the service.



NOBLESVILLE, Ind. — Melvin “Bee” Chaplin, 80, formerly of Glasgow, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, in Noblesville. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the funeral home.



GLASGOW — Motie Lee Fox, 91, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. today (Wednesday) at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Isenberg Cemetery in Monroe County.



ROCKFIELD — Leroy Lindsey, 78, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at The Medical Center. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel, with burial in Bethel Cemetery.



LOUISVILLE — Grace Dean Madison, 99, formerly of Rocky Hill, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital, in Louisville. Funeral services will be noon Friday at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel, with burial in Rocky Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday), from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, at the funeral home.



LEXINGTON — Ruby Nell Fancher Smith, 87, passed away at 8:15 a.m. Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at Northpoint Lexington Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Winn Funeral Home, Horse Cave, with burial in Houk Cemetery in Metcalfe County. Visitation at Winn Funeral Home is from 2 until 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) and after 9 a.m. until funeral time on Thursday.
