Grace Brooks

HARDYVILLE — Grace Brooks, 91, passed away at Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at NHC Healthcare.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Winn Funeral Home Horse Cave.



Wonnie Gay Easter

BURKESVILLE — Wonnie Gay Easter, 91, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at the Magnolia Village in Bowling Green.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home, in Burkesville, with burial in the Burkesville Cemetery.



Uldean Thompson Emmert

TOMPKINSVILLE — Uldean Thompson Emmert, 92, passed away Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, at the Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville.

She was born in Monroe County on Feb. 27, 1917, to the late George Thompson and Edna Rush Thompson. She was a retired homemaker, an accomplished seamstress, a retired cook and the widow of Francis Emmert, who died Dec. 24, 2007.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Royce and Sue Emmert, and Jerry and Jean Emmert, all of Tompkinsville; three daughters and one son-in-law: Margene Birge of Glasgow, Maydene and Kenneth Brady of Gallatin, Tenn., and Kathy Emmert of Tompkinsville; two sisters: Delsie Emmert of Pekin, Ind., and Dane Jackson of Fortville, Ind.; 13 grandchildren: Lonnie, Michael Kevin, Kent, Steven, Terry and Jeremy Emmert, Brad Shockley, Lindsey Pursley, Nanetta Thomas, Valerie Beam, Kim Pennington, Cindy Wells and Amanda Hutchison; and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Leonard and Leo Thompson; and two sisters: Lola Martin and Marie Spears; a son: Morris Emmert; and a daughter: Marcella Swain.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 1 p.m. at Strode Funeral Home, in Tompkinsville, with burial in Monroe County Memorial Lawn. Friends may call at Strode Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Tony Kendall

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Tony Kendall, 47, formerly of Lafayette, Ind., died at his residence on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010.  Born in Lafayette on May 1, 1962, he was the son of Reba (Austin) Kendall of Lafayette and the late Charles Kendall. He was a lab senior technician for Eli Lilly.

Survivors include his former first wife, Debbie Gail (Gilpin) Greenwood, mother of his two children: daughter, Mariah Christian Kendall, and son, Cameron Charles Kendall, and one grandson, JaCovin Andrew Kendall, all of Glasgow.

He was a member of Second Baptist Church. Mr. Kendall was a very talented song writer. His passion was music and Corvettes. He played in several bands and played bass guitar.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Jan. 30 at Second Baptist Church, Lafayette, Ind., with burial in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.  

Memorial contributions may be given to the Hanna Community Center.

Bernice Alline Christie Oakes

GLASGOW — Bernice Alline Christie Oakes, 84, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital.

A daughter of the late Willie and Myrtie Williams Morgan, she was a homemaker and a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church.

Survivors include her four children: Jack Christie and wife, Rose, Rollin Christie and wife, Nancy, and Teddy Christie and wife, Jenny, all of Glasgow, and Freddie Christie of Tampa, Fla.; one step-daughter: Joyce Christie Cox of Tampa; seven grandchildren: Jeff Christie, Jennifer Christie Thurman, Sarah Christie, Micajah Christie, Morgan Christie, Greg Christie and Jennifer; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husbands, Lester Christie and Lester Oaks; four brothers, Cova Morgan, Raymond Morgan, Damon Morgan and Thurman Morgan; three sisters, Gladys Morgan Christie, Lucille Morgan White and Christine Morgan Ford.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Hiseville Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

James Murrell Steenbergen

GLASGOW — James Murrell Steenbergen, 72, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn.

He was born in Barren County, the son of the late Elbert and Lucille Carver Steenbergen.

Mr. Steenbergen was a former employee of Standard Oil Company for 12 years and was retired from SKF Co. after 28 years. He enjoyed gardening and was a fan of little league baseball and basketball. James was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Concord Baptist Church at Austin-Tracy.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Francis Steenbergen; a daughter: Lana Mansfield (Fred) of Glasgow; four grandchildren: Jacob, Jordan, Janoah and Jessica Mansfield, all of Glasgow; one brother: Johnny Steenbergen (Evelyn) of Lafayette, Tenn.; five sisters: Mary Gibbons (Freamon) of Glasgow, Wanda Bell (Rodney) of Canmer and Vera “Boots” Steenbergen, Elaine Steenbergen and Betty Dermott, all of Champaign, Ill. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday at the funeral home.

Shelley Lynn Willis

GLASGOW — Shelley Lynn Willis, 38, formerly of Burkesville, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, at her home.

Survivors include her mother, Susie Smith and her husband, Stanley, of Burkesville, and her father, Bill Willis and his wife, Rosetta, of Albany.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27 at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home, in Burkesville, with burial in Burkesville Cemetery. Visitation is after 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
