GLASGOW — Opal Bartley

TOMPKINSVILLE — Opal Bartley, 98, of Tompkinsville, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at the Monroe Health & Rehab Center in Tompkinsville.

She was born in Monroe County on Dec. 4, 1911, to the late Benton Emmert and Phoebe Thompson Emmert. She was a member of the Freewill Church of Christ, a retired school teacher in the Monroe County school system with 42 years of service, and the widow of Denton Bartley.

She is survived by a daughter: Dwanna Turner of Tompkinsville; two brothers: Joe Emmert of Lincoln Park, Mich., and Jack Emmert of Brooks; four sisters: Geneva Dyer, Dean Gettings, Aletha Walden and Olivia Hall, all of Tompkinsville; three grandchildren: Tamara (Mickey) Cherry, Melissa (Doug) Landers, and Nathan (Candi Heller) Turner; five great-grandchildren: Trey, Mallory and Alexander Landers, Britany and Tyler Cherry.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Eugene, Ray, Ervin and Francis Emmert; and son-in-law: Daymon Turner.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 13, at 1 p.m. at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville, with burial in Bailey Cemetery.

Friends may call at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville after 1 p.m. on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Bailey Cemetery, or Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (Monroe County area), or Heifer International, through the Columbia Avenue Church of Christ Youth Group, Glasgow.

Harry K. Brittian


GLASGOW — Harry K. Brittian, 71, of Glasgow, died Thursday, March 11, 2010, at his residence.

He was the son of the late Pearl Brittian Sr. and Sophia Davidson Brittian. He was member of Browders Chapel Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Farley Brittian; two sons: Harry Lee Brittian and his wife Sandy of Lawrenceburg, and Kenneth Ray Brittian and his wife Beverly of LaGrange; one daughter: Linda Brittian; six grandchildren: Eric, Sean, James, Caitlin, Leah and Maddie; two great-grandchildren: Cristie and Anna; one brother: Pearl Brittian Jr.; and four sisters: Bea Petrey, Mae Burns, Mary Bowling and Barbara Burns. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 14, at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with Brother Barry Harlow officiating. Burial will be in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery with Glasgow Chapter 20 DAV providing military honors.

Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Francis ‘Frank’ Walden Cook


MUNFORDVILLE — Francis “Frank” Walden Cook, 77, of Munfordville, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2010, in Elizabethtown.

He was the son of the late Meredith Cook and the late Marie Wallen Cook Hinman.

Survivors include his wife, Christine “Chris” York Cook.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at Brooks Funeral Home, Munfordville, with interment at Munfordville Municipal Cemetery. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, March 12, at the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 12, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.



Ruby Evelyn Holland


FOUNTAIN RUN — Ruby Evelyn Holland, 78, of Fountain Run, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow.

She was born in Monroe County, on Sept. 20, 1931, to the late Raymond Lee and Lula B. Ford Lee. She was a retired teacher’s aid and secretary for the Monroe County Board of Education and a member of First Baptist Church in Fountain Run. She was married to Lonnie Ray Holland  on Sept. 7, 1949.

She is survived by her husband: Lonnie Ray Holland of Fountain Run; one daughter: Janet Holland Johnson of Scottsville; four grandchildren: Andi Holland Johnson of Lexington, Lee Douglas Johnson of Warsaw, Olivia Nicole Chestnut of Richmond, Va., and Kevin Anthony Chestnut and wife Ashley of Clarksville, Tenn.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter: Stephanie Holland.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 13, at 3 p.m. at Strode Funeral Home, Gamaliel Chapel, with burial in Neal Cemetery in Monroe County.

Friends may call at Strode’s Gamaliel Chapel after 3 p.m. Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Sunrise Children’s Services.



Larry Lindsey

MORGANTOWN— Larry Lindsey, 62, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at The Medical Center of Bowling Green.

The Butler County native was the son of the late John Calvin Lindsey Jr. and Claudia Lorene Flener Lindsey. He was a retired riverboat tankerman for Hines Inc.

Survivors include one son: John Lindsey, Morgantown; one daughter: Gayle Bruce and husband Jamie, Morgantown; one grandson: Johnathan Bruce, Morgantown; two brothers: Roger Lindsey, Alabama, and Hal Neal and wife Shelia, Morgantown; several nieces and nephews; one aunt: Marie Willis, Morgantown.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald B. Lindsey and Mike Earl Lindsey.

There will be no services. Cremation was chosen with a private family burial to be held at a later date. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. Friday, March 12, at Smith Funeral Home, in Morgantown.

Chester Renfro


BOWLING GREEN — Chester Renfro, 85, of Bowling Green, died Thursday, March 11, 2010, at Britthaven of Bowling Green.

He was the son of the late Grover Renfro and Myrtle Meredith Renfro and husband of the late Betty Adkisson Renfro.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 15, at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel, with burial in Bethel Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 to 11 a.m. Monday with a Masonic service on Sunday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.



Alma Strange

SPARKSVILLE — Alma Strange, 89, of the Sparksville Community, Columbia, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital, Glasgow.

She was born in Cumberland County on Nov. 21, 1920, the daughter of the late Alexander and Ferbie Smith Dillon. She was the widow of J.W. “Walon” Strange, who preceded her in death on May 20, 2004. She was also  preceded in death by one sister, Doris Scott; and her step-mother, Ellen Dillon.

She is survived by one son: J.D. Strange and his wife Leah, Pineville; two daughters:  Judy Reeves and her husband Glenn of Glasgow, and Carolyn Brockman of Louisville one sister: Virginia Wilson of Tallahassee, Fla.; six grandchildren:  Ron Reeves of Glasgow, Nancy Moore of Bowling Green,  Beth Bentley of Chicago, Ill., James David Strange, Erin Thompson, and Courtney Cooley of Pineville; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends survive.

She was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church and a homemaker.

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 13, at 11 a.m. at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, Columbia, with Brother Lonny Karnes and Brother Michael Moon officiating. Interment will be in Antioch Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Jo Ann Piper Voyles

MAUCKPORT, Ind. — Jo Ann Piper Voyles, 56, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at Harrison County Hospital in Corydon, Ind.

She was born Jan. 14, 1954, in Louisville, to Carroll and Audrey Shuffett Piper. She worked as a waitress at Waffle House in New Albany, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her son, Anthony Steven Chapman.

Survivors include her husband, Greg Voyles; her mother and stepfather, Audrey and William Kelley of Jeffersonville; her father and stepmother, Carroll and Delores Piper of Simpsonville; her sons: Jason Chapman of New Albany and Rick Chapman of Jeffersonville, Ind.; her brother: Dale Piper of Louisville; her sisters: Robin McClure of Georgetown, and Christina Kelley-Valdes of Jeffersonville; six grandchildren; two stepbrothers and one stepsister.

There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at The Evangel North Church in Clarksville, Ind.

Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon, Ind., is in charge of arrangements.

GLASGOW — Harry Oren Broady, 89, of Glasgow, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Glenview Healthcare. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home, Summer Shade, with burial in Peers Cemetery. Visitation begins today (Friday) at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. 



BONNIEVILLE — Hubert “Jack” Bryant, 77, of Bonnieville, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. today (Friday) in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home, Munfordville, with burial in Concord Cemetery.



GLASGOW — Herman Kingrey, 85, of Glasgow, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation is in progress at the funeral home. Alternate expressions of sympathy may be made to D.A.V. Chapter 20 of Glasgow or Josh’s Friends. Addresses and envelopes for these organizations are available through A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home.



GLASGOW — Richard T. “Dick” Kreusser, 81, of Glasgow, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010, in Glasgow. Services and a Masonic service will be 7 p.m. Friday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with cremation to follow. Visitation is in progress at the funeral home. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorial contributions to the Special Olympics Organization.



CAVE CITY — Charles Buddy Logsdon, 75, Cave City, passed away at his home on Monday, March 8, 2010, after a one year battle with pancreatic cancer. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel with burial in the Cave City Cemetery. Visitation is in progress at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy be made to Potter Children’s Home, 2350 Nashville Road, Bowling Green, KY 42101.



GLASGOW — Beatrice Rose Allison-Nelson, 88, of Glasgow, was born into eternal life on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, resting at the home of William and Mary Nelson in Glasgow. A Memorial Mass will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday and at noon on April 19 at St. Helens Catholic Church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Kentucky and Southern Indiana Chapter, Kaden Tower, 6100 Dutchman’s LN Ste. 401, Louisville, KY 40205-3284.
