GLASGOW — Dixie Belle Butler Carter

TOMPKINSVILLE — Dixie Belle Butler Carter, 75, of Tompkinsville, died Sunday, June 19, 2011, at Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville.

She was the daughter of the late John T. Butler and Florence Havannah Bowman Butler. She was the wife of Leslie Carter of Tompkinsville.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Strode Funeral Home, Tompkinsville. Burial will follow at Skaggs Creek Cemetery in Monroe County. Visitation is after 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Skaggs Creek Cemetery.



Minnie England

GLASGOW — Minnie England, 90, of Edmonton, died Sunday, June 19, 2011, at Metcalfe Health Care in Edmonton.

She was the daughter of the late Robert and Fannie Bottoms Quinn. She was a homemaker and member of the Society Hill Missionary Baptist Church.    

She is survived by one son, Danny and wife Geraline England of Edmonton; four grandchildren, Tim (Carrie) England of Texas, Greg (Lisa) England of Glasgow,  Jeff England of Edmonton and Tammy (Aaron) Brown of Edmonton; a daughter-in-law, Louise England of Edmonton; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.  

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ollie England; one son, Benny Wayne England and two brothers and two sisters.­­

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Butler Funeral Home with burial in Society Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Timmy Ray Keen

GLASGOW — Timmy Ray Keen, 43, of Glasgow, died Sunday, June 19, 2011, at his home.

He was born in Monroe County the son of the late Exel and Shirley Faye Johnson Keen. He attended the Coral Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Timmy Hudgins; a daughter, Tiffany Keen; two brothers, Tony and Troy Keen; a grandchild, Taven Hudgins; his stepmother, Evelyn Poynter, and several nieces, nephews and aunts, all of Glasgow.

 A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home.



Robert Jenkins Kirtley

BOWLING GREEN — Robert Jenkins Kirtley, 91, of Bowling Green, died Monday, June 20, 2011, at Greenview Regional Hospital.

He was the son of the late Edwin Kirtley and Edna Jenkins Kirkley, and the husband of Judy Cassidy Kirtley of Bowling Green, who survives.

Memorial services are 2 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2011, at Eastwood Baptist Church. Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel is in charge of arrangements.





Velma Mosby

GLASGOW — Velma Mosby, 81, of Glasgow, died Sunday, June 19, 2011, at T. J. Samson Community Hospital.

Born in Barren County, she was the daughter of the late Clemmie and Sarah Emma Jones Chapman.  Her husband was the late Charles W. “Doc” Mosby.  Mrs. Mosby was a homemaker and attended the Brotherhood Freewill Baptist Church.

 She is survived by 2 daughters, Diane Smith (Numia) and Judy Mosby and fiancé Glenn Cook; 2 sons, Mike Mosby (Phyllis) and Tim Mosby (Tammy) all of Glasgow; 1 brother, Leo Chapman of Glasgow; 9 grandchildren Chris Smith (Shannon), Kimberly Casteel (Terry), Steven Adams (Jessica), Jason Adams (Desiree), Michael Adams, Charity Childress and fiancé James Brown, Lindsey Kidd (Spencer), Carissa Uptegraff (Billy) and Ginger Richardson (Rick). Sixteen great-grandchildren also survive.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Thomas, and two brothers, Floyd and Paul Chapman.

The funeral service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday at the funeral home.

Martha Bell Jones Rutledge

GLASGOW — Martha Bell Jones Rutledge passed away at home June 20, 2011, from an extended illness.  

She was born March 28, 1931, in Frankfort, Kentucky but was a life-long resident of Glasgow. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Donald Rutledge. She was the daughter of the late William Henry and Nina Jones and the sister of William Beaty Jones and Mary Jane Jones.

She and her husband were publisher and editor of the Glasgow Republican following the death of her father. She was a founding partner, along with her husband, of The Print Shop in Glasgow. She was a life-long member of the First Christian Church in Glasgow and sang in the choir, which she loved for many years. She was a close friend to many and was known for her quick wit, kind humor and gentle touch.

She is survived by her children, Nina Moran (Chuck), Philip Rutledge (Sara), Jane Rutledge (Phyllis), and Paul Rutledge (Suzie).  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Sarah Moran, Kate Spurling, Elizabeth Moran, Will Rutledge, Matthew Rutledge, Chris Rutledge, Emilie Rutledge and Adam Rutledge; one great-granddaughter, Georgia Moretti and many dear friends.  

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hatcher and Saddler Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, and from 9 to 10 a.m. at First Christian Church in Glasgow on June 22, 2011. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at the First Christian Church in Glasgow. Burial will be at Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.  

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made to a favorite charity.

Steven Bogard Simpson

GLASGOW — Steven Bogard Simpson, 25, Glasgow, died Monday from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.  

A native of Barren County, he was the son of Steve Allen Simpson and Betty Lou McClellan Simpson. He was a caregiver and was an avid pool player and open wheel racing fan.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Straddie Allie Simpson; his grandmothers, Velma Smith and Marie Simpson, both of Glasgow; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, J. A. Simpson and Elby Finn, and an uncle, Elby McClellan.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Peers Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Naomi Maynard Blankenship

SCOTTSVILLE — Naomi Maynard Blankenship, 87, of Scottsville died at 9:20 a.m. Sunday, June 19, 2011, at the Glasgow Health and Rehab.

She was the daughter of the late Alexander Carver and Betty Jane Harrison Carver and wife of the late James Wesley Carver and Henderson Lois Blankenship.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Goad Funeral Home with burial in New Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Tuesday at Goad Funeral Home.
