Ben B. Carbo

SMITHS GROVE — Ben B. Carbo, 88, died Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at his home.

Arrangements are incomplete, but under the direction of A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home.



Gladys Ann Philpott

HARDYVILLE — Gladys Ann Philpott, 75, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at Glenview Health Care in Glasgow.

The Barren County native was the daughter of the late Claude and Lois Middleton Harvey and the widow of Amos Philpott. She and her husband owned and operated the LeGrande Market for over 30 years. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son: Billy Philpott, LeGrande; two daughters: Brenda Philpott, LeGrande, Sherry Norman, Cullman, Ala.; a sister: Marie Gossett, Cave City; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services with Earline Branstetter officiating will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel, Cave City, with burial in Cosby Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be from 2 until 8 p.m. today (Tuesday) and after 9 a.m. Wednesday until time of services.

Rev. Elizabeth Jane Crandall Maxwell

BOWLING GREEN — The Rev. Elizabeth Jane Crandall Maxwell, 93, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at Britthaven of Bowling Green.

She was the daughter of the late Harry Crandall and Mary Duncan Crandall and wife of the late Rev. Murdock Thurman Maxwell.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Burial will be in Falcon, N.C. Hardy & Son Funeral Homes Inc., Bowling Green Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.



Mike Simpson

CASA, Ark. — Mike Simpson, 59, formerly of Beaumont, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, at River Valley Medical Center.

He was born July 3, 1950, to Charles and Dolly Shives Simpson. He was a poultry farmer for Wayne Farms. He attended Hickory Grove First Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Simpson; and a brother, Freddie Simpson.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Minnie Simpson of Casa; son, David Simpson of Edmonton; daughters: Janice Yates of Rover, Ark., Jennifer Little of Dardanelle, Ark.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; mother, Dolly Simpson of Florence; sister, Tammy Gibson of Louisville; uncle, Atwell Shives of Glasgow; aunts, Justina Bishop, Glasgow, Edna Ruggeri, Fort Myers, Fla.

Memorial services will be Saturday, Aug. 22, at 11 a.m. at Beaumont United Methodist Church.

GLASGOW — Mitchell Winston Eldridge Jr., 49, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Smith Cemetery at Sulphur Well. Friends may call after 5 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the funeral home.



GLASGOW — Cora Evans, 83, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at Glasgow Health Care & Rehab. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Yokley-Trible Funeral Home, Tompkinsville, with burial in Mount Nebo Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.



HORSE CAVE — James C. (Jim) Kennedy, 62, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at Caverna Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be conducted for family and friends Saturday at 5 p.m. at 1929 Youngers Creek Road in New Haven. His body was cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of Winn Funeral Home, Horse Cave.



GLASGOW — Lula Payne Martin, 86, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at Glenview Health Care in Glasgow. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens.



JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Agnes Taylor Ray passed away Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, in Jacksonville, Fla. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at Strode’s Gamaliel Chapel, in Gamaliel, with burial in Gamaliel Cemetery. Friends may call at Strode Funeral Home, Gamaliel Chapel, after noon today. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Terry Parker Baptist Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.



MUNFORDVILLE — Jean B. Wilson, 69, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at The Commonwealth Regional Specialty Hospital in Bowling Green. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hill Grove Baptist Church with burial in Hill Grove Cemetery. Visitation continues at Sego Funeral Home, Munfordville, until 9 p.m., and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time for services at the Hill Grove Baptist Church.
