Don Evans Baker

EIGHTY EIGHT — Don Evans Baker, 79, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at his home.

He was a retired farmer and a son of the late William Doll and Crittie Farlee Baker.

He is survived by two daughters: Dantha Jo Crisp, of North Carolina, and Wanda Baker, of Eighty Eight; and two step daughters: Barbara Shaw, of Summer Shade and Joan Long of Edmonton; three sons: Willard Baker and James Evans Baker, both of Franklin; and one step son, Jimmy White of Glasgow; three sisters: Sylvia Gilbert, of Burkesville, Etta Hoard, of Lebanon, and Yvonna Hardin, of Bardstown; 21 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Baker; two sons: Roger Baker and Keith Thacker; and brothers: John W. Baker and Edsel Baker.

Funeral services will be Sunday, Aug. 23, at 2 p.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home, Summer Shade, with Brother Doug Parks and Brother Elvin Milam officiating. Interment will be in Summer Shade Cemetery. Visitation will begin Saturday, Aug. 22, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to help with funeral expenses.



Harry P. Bush

GLASGOW — Harry P. Bush died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009, at NHC Healthcare in Glasgow.

He was the son of the late Sallie P. Bush and Harry P. Bush Sr.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 22, at 11 a.m. at Loving Springs Baptist Church with burial in Clayton Family Cemetery. Visitation will be 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Watts Funeral Home, Glasgow, is in charge of arrangements.



Cecilia Nell Smith

MOUNT WASHINGTON — Cecilia Nell Smith, 92, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009.

She was the daughter of the late Cofer and Ella Royce Reece and wife of the late Floyd Willis Smith.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. today (Friday) at McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home in Mount Washington with burial in Highland Memory Gardens.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.



Bennie Carl Nichols

GLASGOW — Bennie Carl Nichols, 90, passed away Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at his residence.

A son of the late Ira Lewis Nichols and Amanda Elizabeth Jane Wells Nichols, he was a retired farmer and a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Nichols; one daughter and son-in-law, Carla Marie and Tom Evans; three nieces, Alta Eubank, Ruth Eubank and Alice Little; and one nephew, William McFarland.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charlie M. Nichols; and two sisters, Lela McFarland and Bessie Nichols.

There will be a memorial service on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Barren County Primitive Baptist Meeting House for the passing of Bennie Carl Nichols. The meeting house is at the corner of Lick Branch and New Salem roads. A private burial was held at the Bowles Cemetery under the direction of Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to T.J. Samson Hospice.

BOWLING GREEN — Geneva Irene Brannon, 80, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009, at her residence. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel, with burial in Fairview Cemetery No. 2. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.



HORSE CAVE — James C. (Jim) Kennedy, 62, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at Caverna Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be conducted for family and friends Saturday at 5 p.m. at 1929 Youngers Creek Road in New Haven. His body was cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of Winn Funeral Home, Horse Cave.



CASA, Ark. — Mike Simpson, 59, formerly of Beaumont, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, at River Valley Medical Center. Memorial services will be Saturday, Aug. 22, at 11 a.m. at Beaumont United Methodist Church. Cremation arrangements by Cornwell Funeral Home, Dardanelle, Ark.
