GLASGOW — James Brown

GLASGOW — James Robert “Jim” Brown, 88, Bon Ayr, died Friday, July 09, 2010, at the Hospice Center of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green.

A native of Bath County, he was a son of the late Alfred and Ethel McFarland Brown and was a retired bus driver for Barren County Schools. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and of the Baptist faith.

 Survivors include five children, Betty Ewing (Roy) of Mansfield, OH, Ruby Neighbors (David) of Bowling Green, James Robert “Bobby” Brown, Jr. and Garnett Brown both of Glasgow, and Della Gaskin (Jeff) of Bowling Green; the children’s mother, Delilah Lee Brown; nine grandchildren, Jody Ewing of Mansfield, Michael Gaskin (Maria) of Glasgow, Leigh Barker (Terry) of Russellville, Pamela Martin, David Gaskin, Nickie Brown and Robert Brown all of Bowling Green, Chad Lyons (Tiffany) and Shea Jones (Tim) of Glasgow; three sisters, Ruthlene Zinn of Mansfield, Ina Berry of Arizona and Della Sheppard of Virginia; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Glenn Brown, Everett Brown and Junior Brown; one sister, Ruby Prater.

 Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens.  Friends may call after noon Sunday at the funeral home.

Susan Davis

GLASGOW — Susan Elaine Davis, 43, of Glasgow, died Saturday, July 10, 2010, at home, after a hard-fought battle with cancer (melanoma).

Susan was born on January 4, 1967, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital. She was a 1985 graduate of Barren County High School; she had attended Western Kentucky University; was a member of the Christian faith; and attended the Glenview Christian Church.

 She is the daughter of Ken and Jerri (Blazejewski) Davis, who survive.  Also surviving is her brother David Davis, his wife Karen, and their children Rachel and Harrison of Glasgow; her sister, Sandy Davis of Louisville; her brother Jonathan Davis, his wife Leslie, and their daughter Lettia of Horse Cave; her sister, Jennifer Fields, her husband, Jason and their children Jessica, Jaden and Jenson.

 A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at the Glenview Christian Church. The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church. Expressions of sympathy in Susan’s memory may be made to T. J. Samson Hospice or Glenview Christian Church Building Fund. The family is being assisted by Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.

Charles Ray Day

CENTRAL CITY — Charles Ray Day, 77, of Central City, died Thursday, July 8, 2010, at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville.

He was born July 27, 1932, and was a member of First United Methodist Church, in Central City. Mr. Day was formerly head basketball coach of Austin Tracy High School, where he was also the P.E. teacher from 1960-1969. He was a teacher and coach at Glasgow Middle School from 1969-1994, and he retired from there in 1994.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Millard Day, of Central City; a brother: Jack Day, of Central City; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, July 11, at Tucker Funeral Home, Central City, with the Rev. Bob Lowery officiating, assisted by Dr. Kevin Brown. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery in Central City. Visitation continues Sunday at the funeral home until time of services.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Kentucky and Southern Indiana Headquarters, 6100 Dutchmans Lane, Suite 401, Louisville, KY 40205.

Loraine Bowman Hestand

TOMPKINSVILLE — Loraine Bowman Hestand, 76, of Tompkinsville, died Friday, July 9, 2010, at her home in Tompkinsville.

She was the daughter of the late Herburt Bowman and Vera Norman Bowman.

Survivors include her husband, Rayburn Hestand, of Tompkinsville.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, July 12, at Strode Funeral Home, Tompkinsville, with burial in Monroe County Memorial Lawn. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Sunday, July 11, at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the family for funeral expenses.



Gene Oneal Spears

GLASGOW — Gene Oneal Spears, 66, of Glasgow, formerly of Monroe County, died Thursday, July 8, 2010, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital, Glasgow.

He was the son of the late Wilson Ezra Spears and Roxie Thompson Spears.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, July 11, at Strode Funeral Home, Tompkinsville, with burial in Bailey Cemetery. Visitation continues Sunday until time of services at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Kosair Children’s Hospital.
