Raynor Leslie ‘Bill’ Ayers Jr.

CAVE CITY — Raynor Leslie “Bill” Ayers Jr., 96, died Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, in Glasgow.

Born May 25, 1913, in Covington Va., he lived in Baltimore, Md., Vero Beach, Fla., and Cave City. He was a longtime member of the Rotary Club. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II achieving the rank of Major and graduated from U of Penn. in 1936.

He is survived by wife, Martha Wells Ayers of Cave City; children: Ray L. Ayers III of Dallas, Texas, and Susan Robertson of Chestertown, Md.; and grandchildren: William Ayers, Cynthia Degalleford and Tiffany Robertson.

He was preceded in death by wife, Eleanor H. Ayers in 1992, mother to the surviving children.

A family graveside service is planned for Covington, Va.

A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.



SERVICES

COLUMBIA — Asa Shelton, 97, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, in Greensburg. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, Columbia, with burial in Columbia Cemetery. Visitation is after 9 a.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Columbia United Methodist Church; Asa, Allie & David Shelton Scholarship Fund or Dorothy “Tillie” Shelton Scholarship Fund, both at Lindsey Wilson College. These may be sent to the funeral home at 200 Campbellsville St., Columbia, KY 42728.
