Sandra Sue Bailey

GLASGOW — Sandra Sue Bailey, 67, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009 at NHC Healthcare Facility in Glasgow.

She was born in Metcalfe County, the daughter of the late Charles and Mildred Free Simmons. Sandy was a beautician and an inspector for the State Board of Hairdressers and Cosmetologists. She was a member of Old Zion United Methodist Church, the Barren County Homemakers, the Young at Heart group and the Samsonites. She was also a member of the Barren County Democratic Women’s Club where she served as secretary.

She is survived by her son: Brad Bailey and wife Jennifer of Glasgow; a granddaughter: Megan Bailey; and a step granddaughter: Lauren Barrett.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Bailey; and an infant granddaughter, Molly Ann Bailey.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at Old Zion United Methodist Church with burial in Old Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday at 1 p.m. at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home and on Saturday at Old Zion Methodist Church from 9 a.m. until time for the service.

Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorial contributions to Old Zion United Methodist Church for their stained glass window project.

Lois Gunell Houchens Green

GLASGOW — Lois Gunell Houchens Green, 88, died Thursday Sept. 17, 2009, at her home.

She was born in Barren County, the daughter of the late Thomas Stone Houchens and Rossie Spillman Houchens. She was retired from Handmachers, was a homemaker and was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include three sons: Leon Green and Carlos Green of Glasgow, and Larry Green (Kaye) of Park City; six grandchildren: Cherri Irwin (Mike), and Carlesia Taylor (Jackie) of Glasgow, Todd Green (Lori) of Park City, Shane Green (Stacy) and Sonja Coulter (Wes) of Glasgow, and Leslie Green of Bowling Green; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; three sisters: Naomi Duvall (Rusty), Rohena Duvall and Maxine Houchens all of Glasgow; a sister-in-law: Lois Frankum of Glasgow; a brother-in-law: Raymond Thompson of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Green; five sisters: Beulah Crawhorn, Izetta Thompson, Juanita Davidson, Alma Jackson and Willodean Davis; and a daughter-in-law, Ina Green.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Old Zion Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Robert K. (Bob) Love

EDMONTON — Robert K. (Bob) Love, 82, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at his home at Edmonton.

He was the son of the late Fred and Myrtle Grider Love. Bob was a World War II Army veteran, member of the Pleasant Hill Church of Christ and had owned and operated Sun Valley Oil Company in Edmonton for 45 years. He was also a charter member of the Mid Kentucky Antique Car Association.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 until 8 p.m. today (Friday) and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

He is survived by his ex-wife and devoted caregiver, Christine Love of Scottsville; four children: Cindy (Richard) Young of Edmonton, Robin Love of Gallatin, Tenn., Tracy (Tammy) Love of Bowling Green and Tony Love of Louisville; five grandchildren: John Fred Young, Victoria Love, Andrea Love, Grace Love and Savanna Love; three sisters: Alyne Durette of Cincinnati, Maydell Walker of Columbia and Patsy Sims of Edmonton; one brother: Preston Love of South Bend, Ind. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Adrie Love.

Audrey Nell Spear

TOMPKINSVILLE — Audrey Nell Spear, 85, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at the Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville.

She was the daughter of the late Charlie Younger and Bessie Anderson Younger and wife of the late Ira Esco Spear.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at Strode Funeral Home, Tompkinsville, with burial in Monroe County Memorial Lawn. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. today (Friday) at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the William B. Harlan Memorial Library.



Cheryl Kaye Steenbergen

GAMALIEL — Cheryl Kaye Steenbergen, 60, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow.

She was the daughter of Wilma Denison Turner and the late Windell Turner.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at Strode Funeral Home, Gamaliel Chapel, with burial in Gamaliel Cemetery. Visitation is in progress at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Gamaliel Baptist Church.



Mildred Sturgeon

PARK CITY — Mildred Sturgeon, 89, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital, Glasgow.

She was the wife of the late Hobert Sturgeon and daughter of the late Berry Sturgeon and Hattie Isenberg Sturgeon. She was a housewife and member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons: Samuel Sturgeon (Loretta) of Park City, and Hollis Sturgeon (Freda) of Cave City; two daughters: Bertha Lou Cave of Cave City and Dorothy Parker (Ray Jewell) of Park City; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sons: Donald, Hillard and Randy Sturgeon; one daughter: Janice Snawder; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church with burial in New Hope Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. today (Friday), from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at Patton Funeral Home, Park City Chapel, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.

BOWLING GREEN — John Emery Martin, 70, formerly of Munfordville, died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, at The Medical Center in Bowling Green. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home, Munfordville, with burial in Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery. Visitation continues until 9 p.m. today (Friday) and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.



TOMPKINSVILLE — Edmond Parsley, 83, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Yokley-Trible Funeral Home, Tompkinsville, with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
