Barbara Jean Adwell
HORSE CAVE – Barbara Jean Adwell, 79, of Horse Cave, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at St. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital in Louisville.
She was a daughter of the late William Druen and Mary Helen Walsh Druen and wife of the late Roger Glenn Adwell.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home with Brother Darrell Hensley officiating. Burial will be in Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will continue after 8 a.m. Friday at the funeral home until time for services.
Dorothy Jean ‘Bobbie’ Huddleston
GLASGOW – Dorothy Jean “Bobbie” Huddleston, 83, of Glasgow, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital.
She was born in Barren County a daughter of the late Brent and Mary Ellie Houchens Matthews. Mrs. Huddleston was a homemaker and had attended Glasgow Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, Scott Huddleston, of Florida; two sisters, Helen Taylor, of Glasgow, and Louise Bartlett, of Lafayette, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Huddleston; four brothers, Ernest, Hal, Kenneth and William Matthews; and six sisters, Laura Alice Claspell, Elizabeth Ritter, Katherine Everett, Ida Sisco, Edith Piercy and Lillian Harrison.
Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at A.F. Crow and Son Funeral Home with burial in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 3 until 8 p.m. and Sunday morning until time for the service.

Ruby Cole Jessie
GLASGOW – Ruby Cole Jessie, 89, of Glasgow, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital.
She was born in Adair County the daughter of the late Willie D. and Myrtie Sparks Cole. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Lawrence Gilbert Jessie.
Mrs. Jessie was a homemaker and was the first president of the Barren County Republican Women’s Club. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for more than 25 years.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Jane Pendleton and husband John, of Glasgow; a brother, Tom Cole and wife Anna, of Bowling Green; and several nieces and nephews, including special nieces and nephews, Glenn Cole, Marsha Cole Wardlaw, Tony Cole and Becky Garnick. Several great-nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at A.F. Crow and Son Funeral Home with burial in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Herbert D. 'Sprocket' Proffitt
TOMPKINSVILLE – Herbert D. “Sprocket” Proffitt, 82, of Tompkinsville, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at the Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville.
He was born June 19, 1930, in Monroe County, to the late Homer Proffitt and Vernie Sheffield Proffitt. He was a retired police officer and court bailiff, a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Korea. He was united in marriage on July 28, 1959, to Bernice Cupp.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice Cupp Proffitt; one son, Jeff Proffitt, both of Tompkinsville; one sister, Corinne Duncan, of Owensboro; and two grandchildren, Morgan Proffitt and Grayson Proffitt, both of Tompkinsville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen and Waymond Proffitt.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Tompkinsville with burial to follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be after 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Strode Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Tompkinsville.
Memorials are suggested to the Herbert “Sprocket” Proffitt Scholarship Fund, Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association.
Bratie Eugene Underwood Jr.
CAVE CITY – Bratie Eugene Underwood Jr., 93, of Cave City, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at NHC Health Care Center, Glasgow.
The Alabama native was the son of the late Bratie Eugene Underwood Sr. and Mary Lou Tulloss and the widower of Mary Doris Williamson Underwood. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Hazel Green Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a son, William (Bill) Underwood (Judy), of Cave City; two daughters, Barbara Jane Pate and Wilba Jean Soffess, both of Hazel Green, Ala.; six grandchildren, Dr. Rhonda Underwood, of Cave City, Greg Medley, Timothy Pate, Jason Soffess and Tammy Soffess, both of Huntsville, Ala., Chris Pate, of Louisiana; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Fayetteville, Tenn., under the direction of Gallant Funeral Home, Fayetteville, Tenn.
Local arrangements are by Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel, Cave City. There will be no visitation.

Elwood Whitehouse Jr.
GLASGOW – Elwood Whitehouse Jr., 58, of Glasgow, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, at his home.
Born in Jefferson County, he was the son of the late Elwood and Mable Montgomery Whitehouse. He was a former employee of Caswell-Dunes Construction Company in North Carolina and was an ordained minister and Sunday school teacher at the Upper Room Harvest Church in Barren County.
Survivors include his wife, Angela Sue Groce Whitehouse; three children, Charron Whitehouse, Nathaniel (Amandia) Whitehouse and Joshua (Colleen) Whitehouse, all of Glasgow; three grandchildren, Logan, Hanna and Cara Whitehouse; two brothers, Mitchell (Debbie) Whitehouse, of Louisville, and Gary (Jane) Whitehouse, of Oklahoma; and one sister, Karen Noel (Charles), of Louisville.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Laurie Smith.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 2, 2012, at A.F. Crow and Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Friday.

BOWLING GREEN – Joe D. Wilson, 80, of Bowling Green, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at his residence.
He was the son of the late Auvel Wilson and Agnes Wilson, and the husband of the late Faye Harrison Wilson.
A memorial service will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Hardy and Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel.
